Insane Gunbroker listing of the day-

To put the situation in fair context , if we are to take the seller at his word he is liquidating a (presumably his) collection of a half century. The H&R is a rare one as H&Rs go , must be one of his favorites. His price for the S&W topbreak .38 is within the realm of realism. His reviews are excellent. Sentimentality my play be a factor here , and no one has any obligation to bid on an inflated item. (no bids at this point)

It's not a panic shortage opportunistic type situation --- It's a Harrington Richardson .22 , not a box of 9mm ammunition at &1.00 per round.

The thing I’m noticing is, not all the prices are insanely high. Some are insanely low - or maybe just depressed from previous years. Anything pocket size in a “popular “ round, or Rambo worthy with big sounding numbers in the description, is getting inflated; not much in between, the old standbys of holster carrying beat cop days, long barrel revolvers in.38 and .32, is getting much interest. Maybe now would be the time to buy an Official Police or 4th issue hand ejector.38Spl? Then again, maybe not...

Quite right. The "hot gun" of the moment changes. It's the hot guns that get bid up. Which is the hot gun of the moment is influenced by various popular YouTube gun channels. If there's a particular gun you want to add to your collection and it's getting bid to insane levels, you just need to step aside for awhile and wait until it's no longer hot. Eventually some of those sold will come back on the market, most likely at more reasonable asking pricings, at least in comparison to the prices of the current hot guns.

You SIGNED UP just to drop a meaningless political insult into a non-political thread? Gee, thanks. So what do you think of $900 for an H&R 199?
Hopefully to clear things up (if it matters), I signed up purely for loading knowledge, tools and valuable resources. This forum I find is one of the best. I also believe this madness we experience can also be like a self fulfilling prophecy too. Also, constantly placing the blame on first-time gun owners may have some merit, but only when it concerns those first timers who got them based on political reasons. I’m sure there’s some who just happened to purchase a firearm during the last year who are stigmatized by this title. Now going from recent experiences at the range I made the “can’t shoot” comment as I had to leave for fear of safety from the negligent use being displayed.
Interestingly, in all this madness I purchased 1000 CCI-250 for $47 just two weeks ago.

I began to lose touch with what _steve_ was talking about when he said "this madness we experience can also be like a self fulfilling prophecy too". I have my own opinions about what is madness, why we are experiencing it, and what might happen because of it, but I don't jam them in the conversation wherever I go. But then, I also lack the ability to tell people's political opinions from how they shoot at the range, so maybe that's just me.

If I recall correctly, didn’t the shooting sports association publish some statistics on new, first time buyers recently? I think their conclusion was the majority were educated professional single parent household suburban women. I can’t find the specific article anymore.

Found it:
AUGUST 24, 2020

FIRST-TIME GUN BUYERS GROW TO NEARLY 5 MILLION IN 2020

NSSF surveys revealed that 58 percent of firearm purchases were among African American men and women, the largest increase of any demographic group. Women comprised 40 percent of first-time gun purchasers. Retailers noted that they are seeing a 95 percent increase in firearm sales and a 139 percent increase in ammunition sales over the same period in 2019.

. There was an advertised sticker upon vehicle’s bumper.

In any case, stating I am part of the reason for these outrageous bids (and shortages) simply because I bought my first firearm last August is probably a more out of place statement then my reply to it

Stooping to "I know you are - but what am I???" just might get a thread ki-boshed.

The left have deep pockets, but they can’t shoot. Waste of good resources
I can shoot very well but I don't have deep pockets. I also bought my first gun 32 years ago. I hope you can shoot better than you post.
This left vs right thing in this country has got to stop.

Steve, it looks like you're a new member here. Welcome. As an FYI politics are not allowed here and the mods will shut down threads if they see that being done. As a courtesy to the members who start a thread as well as other members we try not to do things which will get another member's thread shut down.

Okay, THIS is insane!
Ishapore Jungle Carbine .308 RFI 2A1 1967 w/ Extras
Starting bid: $599/Buy now: $650
Item 887220893
The "extras" are an after-market sling and import mark.

That kind of money for a chopped-up Ishie? And it's not even a Gibbs! The joker who buys that will be getting exactly what they deserve, too.

Well I am considering listing my Taurus TCP 738 .380 pocket gun. I will start the price at one penny and let the final price be what someone wants to offer for it. I have something else I want to buy.

And I have 450 rounds of 380 ammo I will also list for around what I paid for it and also let the market set the final price. I hope to get more than the $77 I paid for the gun. Its nice to carry in your pocket. You forget its there. I just haven't ever warmed up to 380. I would like a small 9mm single stack. And I have lots of 9mm ammo.

No, not insane at all. I checked it out. That's really middle-ballpark for current market for that item. That rifle's got some major faults, no doubt, but to get an unspoiled NRA-rated "very good" example of that item you'd be spending at least another $200 for market price, not insane unreasonable bid-up price. It's just the way things are right now. Those who can't take the heat stay out of the kitchen until the cooking is done.

There is no such thing as a “Jungle Carbine” 2A1 Ishapore. The Indian Army did not surplus anything that wasn’t worn out. That’s why some unscrupulous importers made such Frankenstein mix-matches. Basically, its a chopped up imported rejected surplus Indian-made knock off of the pre-WW2 British service rifle. If the NRA rates chopped surplus, they really have fallen far.
