Insane/Mentally Ill people at the range.

I don't feel so bad about my "Alan Greenspan is a flesh eating bacteria" theory anymore...

Risasi - I visited Tuscan, Tuscon...um Two Sonne. Whatever. (Yeah, I know it's Tucson, I'm just kidding. ) I visited there about 14 years ago. I hung out almost all night filming nutballs. And four people were shot that night too. I doubt Austin is all that bad.

I know what you mean Vern, oops Risasi!

That is why my location information specifies I DON'T live in Arizona's answer to Berkley. :cuss: :cuss: :cuss:

It's bad enough going into town for groceries & ammo! :banghead:

You meet great people at gun ranges (most of the time).

You meet whackos every once in a while. I've run into some whackos at the range on occasions.

The good outweights the bad by a lot. In fact, I'd go far as to say that MOST people I've met at the range are MORE considerate and kinder than the general population.

I would tend to agree with that statement. It seems like many people at the range are part of an unspoken club. You'll meet a fair share of diverse people on the range that'll let you shoot their firearms which you've never seen before/wanted to try before buying/plain lust or curiosity... good luck trying to ask for a free spin from the guy in the Corvette next to you at the stoplight!

...then again, I'm sure a meeting area of like-minded people like a gun range, race track, or similar establishment will usually bring out the better side in people due to similar interests versus nameless faces you seem to bump into in everyday life since you know absolutely nothing about them. Of course, a lot of times, there is always a vocal minority of bad apples which seem to get a majority of attention.

Ive met all of those guys at the range at one time or another. I havent had the pleasure of seeing them there all at once though.

I do enjoy eavesdropping on the conversation of multiple wildly insane people though. They all have vastly contradictory thearies but still agree with one another so that they can continue to share them.

It's funny, I started reading the first post and then looked to see that the author was from Texas and I knew exactly what range he was talking about.

Thankfully I have never had to deal with the ramblings even though I shoot there more than anywhere else. The first time I went he mumbled something that I couldn't hear, and I said "what was that?" He then mumbled that I was too young to understand but that I would some day. Now I just show up and hand him the money and we leave each other alone. It's a nice relationship.

And here I am expousing the joys of living in Texas....along comes these fellers who are giving up all the super-duper secret stuff... :cuss:

I dare one of you guys to go in and ask if he would be willing to set up a tin-foil hat rack! :scrutiny:

go in one day wearing all of your uber-tacticool gear and ask him when and where was the last sighting of big-foot there in the hill-country... :D

It seems that, even though you have to jump through hoops for gun-ownership, you don't need to if you wish to open up a rifle range.

It's funny to see all these posts of THR members united by their expirences with "Crazy Richard".

Anybody care to list any? I can only imagine what would happen if 1/10th of what he said was listed. This man is truly insane.

i see you met Crazy Richard.

as you can see they don't call him "Crazy" Richard for nothing. the range is the Hamilton Pool Range off 71 and Hamilton Pool Road outside of Austin. he's a nutjob.

i met him a few years ago when my friend invited me to shoot there with him. he went on a rant about how the Jews were going to take over the world and they have built a temple in the middle of Central Park (NY) but you can't see it due to the stealth generators they have.

i walked away but my friend was too scared to move. Richard went on and on and on and he is very well known amongst the shooters in Austin.

i have a friend who likes to shoot long distance and went out there to shoot 500 yards, only to see Crazy Richard had removed his targets out there. he said he was removing them due to a land dispute between his neighbor who claimed the targets were on his land and not Richard's. instead of disputing it, Richard said it was no big deal since the end of the world is [insert random date here].

Richard's "end of the world" predictions have come and gone and its actually humorous at the monthly gun show here to find out the latest "end of the world" prediction.

Travis Co. Sheriff's Office used to use his range for training and have since found another location.

it wouldn't surprise me if one day Richard got so paranoid he thought someone was going there to kill him and he shoots someone and buries the guy out on the range somewhere.

in fact i know of several guys who carry concealed out on that range in the event Crazy Richard decides to go off on them for protection from him. call that weird huh.

he once went off on me and came out with his pistol holster unsnapped (1911) and hand near his pistol. for "rapid firing" on the range. he was lucky i didn't overreact myself.

i have never returned to his range for good reason. some of my friends went there and he gave them a copy of his manifesto which is about the size of a phone book.

i think the local IDPA sometimes shoots there but i would assume that since there are a whole bunch of them there its hard for Crazy Richard to pigeonhole one of them and go off on them.

but every shooter in Austin seems to have a Crazy Richard story....

Oh goody crazies

It is "Hill Country Rifle Range", Wow I thought I was the only one in the area who had discovered this little backwater Deliveranceesque garden spot.
That place was the reason I built my own range on the family ranch.
The guys at that place Scare me and I am a Redneck, In case you are wondering that is very bad it takes a lot to scare me especially while I am shooting.
Hey who ever said mental illness and guns don't mix? Oh wait That would be anyone with common sense.

Some scary folks in the Texas Hill Country, must be something in the water.

DarthBubba :neener:

I took me and my cousin to the Hill Country, well Richard started to talk down to my cousin about moving a target, cuz almost got into a fist fight with him. However once he he recognized that I had my BHP cocked and locked with my hand on the pistol he settled down being out numbered 2-1. I have been kicked of his range at least 3 times. He still lets me back on to shoot, however the last time got into another augment with him he said something about not agreeing with The King and His Court and ejected me like a Basketball Referee "Your Out Of Here". :cuss:

What none of you have considered is what if 1/10 of what he says is true. :uhoh: :D

Anyone intrested in prehaps doing a THR shoot out there this weekend to give richard a little taste of his own medicine?? Possibly bring some alien targets? Wear any clothing with aliens on them? Fire rapidly at "aliens" that appeared in front of you're target stand? Only to claim that he got their after the mothership beamed them up. :neener:

Hehe. I love all the stories. Keep em comming.

The scary thing is that more than likely he is severly mentally ill and not on any medication (like most of THR...just kidding) and one day he may just snap and start blasting away at people killing who knows how many - the only upside would probably be that just about everybody there is armed and knows he's ?????heel and would hopefully be able to subdue him before he would be able to do too much.

Do you think he would mind if a Chinese-American shooter showed up to use the range??? I'm just waiting for the next transport back to Jupiter.

I don't think so although I can't speak for ole "Crazy Richard" however I think you are going to have a problem going to jupiter because apparently you came from the second Moon of Mars. :neener:

that is insane.. and kinda scary. how the man runs a business in such a skewed version of the world is an anomely in itself...

and lol @ an earlier poster here about the homies and their glocks.... the thing I love though is that the owners of the range I frequent rent them their precious glock 40's and sell them top shelf self defense ammo to punch paper just to get em out of there asap. :D

Are you sure he is not a student of the L.Ron Hubbard school of theology?

His ideas sound very similar.

I know this thread is old but I still have to ask...
Black people are inferior because they managed to build a spaceship and make from Jupiter to here? How is that inferior?
Sorry. Had to bring that up.

His real name was Uta Napishtim before he changed it to Noah. Sounds like a pretty smart guy actually.

Um,why would ANYONE go back to a range where they felt the need to be armed against the range owner or put themselves into the position where they feel the need to prepare to draw down on him?Seems like some people are about bucking for a shooting:uhoh:I'd let my daughter sell Girl Scout cookies to crackhouses before I'd go back to that place or before I went to it the first time based on reputation.

Sounds like someone didn't heed the warnings and decided to mix their L Ron Hubbard and Alex Jones.
