Hey guys I came across this writeup tonight and found it interesting:
www.gunguys.com/?p=1588 (don't click, they don't deserve any traffic)
In the article they state " It's likely that they didn't know the weapon
didn't belong in the mall (even though it seems common sense to most of
us)"
Of course I immediately had to go to the front page and see if they had any commentary on the offduty officer with a concealed weapon that stopped a shooter who had already shot 9 people.

That seems to sum of the thinking of most anti's very well. They believe that concealed carry laws allow criminals to carry when they would be expressly forbid from carrying and carry anyway. They believe the police are the only ones professional enough to be able to defend themselves. And they believe they will be able to magically make guns disappear so we will all be safe as the english. And the shooting has ignited debate on both sides of the gun issue. One of the first responders to the scene was an off-duty police officer carrying a concealed weapon, and his actions against the gunman eventually helped police to end the violence. Gun guys are jumping on that as a reason to support dangerous concealed carry laws.

The problem with that argument, of course, is that whenever there are firearms around, people die. Concealed weapons laws may be able to arm experienced knowledgeable people like this off-duty police officers (who, in certain situations, may be able to actually do some good after disaster has already occured), but they also arm criminals. Loose gun laws are often the reason why people like Talovic are able to obtain their weapons in the first place. More guns in “lawful” hands may work as a last ditch effort at ending the killing with more killing, but as a solution, it lacks. Fighting fire with fire just leaves us all with more fire to put out.
