Howdy,

Picked up a hood to replace the one that was missing on the front sight of my BAR. I see how it goes on (grooves on the side of the ramp) but the size of the gap on the hood and the width of the ramp are different enough that it looks like a fair amount of force is going to be required to mount it.

So my question is how to go about mounting without damaging the front sight, or compromising the tight fit needed to keep the hood from coming off.

Thanks in advance for the help

Most of them have a wider tapered end to get them started on the ramp.

I usually just grease the grooves, start them on, and tap them the rest of the way with a plastic hammer.

If it doesn't have a tapered end, I have used snap-ring pliers to spring them open enough to get them started.

Ah, that lit a spark....

Not much taper but I used the poor mans snap ring, opening a pair of needle nose pliers enough inside the hood to get it started and bingo.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, RC.
