Instructions/advice for swapping out my 1911 trigger (I never took it apart before)

I have watched a video on it and had a brief explaination from a store rep, but any instructions or advice as to how to remove and replace my 1911 trigger, preferrably without undoing the trigger job I had on it?

Also, with what tool do I remove (and later reinsert) the pins? I would rather not mar the blued finish if possible.

I've found through experience trying to do modifications like this requires additional tutelage. You might have a more favorable outcome if you ask someone competent or a gunsmith if you could observe the procedure...Yes, there is cost involved but the reward will be some sound knowledge. Some won't mind acting as a mentor....

You're welcome of course. When I waste time surfing the web for gun info I bookmark stuff like that, then later when someone can use it I don't feel so guilty for wasting precious time.

John Browning's original design was very straight forward, and detail stripping is easy. But S&W, bless their pointed little heads, had to improve it with a grip safety based firing pin block (for the children of course). While this made some lawyers happy (not to mention the Brady Bunch) it complicated the takedown a bit.

Of the 1911 firing pin safeties the S&W probably has the simplest firing pin safety mechanism. There are three additional parts, the plunger and spring in the slide and the lever in the frame. The plunger and spring can be removed by drifting out the rear sight. The lever in the frame rides on the hammer pin in a slot cut out for it to the right of the hammer. Look how it is put together when you take it apart and it will be easy to get back together. There is no need to remove the parts in the slide, you can clean them by removing the firing pin and firing pin stop.
