I was trying to google some information, but everywhere I go to try to get information requires you to be a law enforcement officer to take a class.

What I want to do is find out what is required to be a handgun instructor. I think it would be a really rewarding line of work. I am not law enforcement or military. I just want to teach gun safety classes, and maybe more later on. I had a bad experience, which I don't want to talk about, suffice to say it involved my friend accidentally shooting me, and a gun safety class likely would have prevented that from happening. I am older now, and have more common sense, and I think it would really be personally rewarding to teach gun safety to others.

How would I go about getting training? What kind of training is required?

I can't seem to find the answers, so I was hoping I could get some help. Thanks a lot.

That's great! I was looking there, but I could only find the LEO version. thanks for the link, that helps a lot!

One little tip on your NRA instructor training...take a .22 caliber pistol & revolver for your qualification.

For some reason I missed the memo and had to qualify with a 1911 and a .44 mag. When you see the size of the targets you'll understand!

What they'll do is have a local 'Course Director' (can't remember their exact title) contact you and he/she will let you know when his next instructor class is. In my class we did the basic instructor on day 1 and basic pistol instructor on day 2. After that, the world opens up for you and you can take the other instructor classes (basic rifle, home defense & personal protection, etc.)

It's pretty nice to be able to sign yourself off for CCW requirements... :D
