Wife, son and I went out to dinner last night. No big deal, I usually carry my 1911, but today I had my M&P in outside the waste band holster. We sit down get some tea and appetizers. The booth across the isle from us has couple sitting there, I think the lady was school teacher due to several children stopping by and saying "Hi, Mrs. XXXXX". We they got up to go to the salad bar and when they returned, I noticed the gentlemen had a leather universal holster on his belt with no pistol in it, but I could see the out line of the pistol should be there. You know the open bottom, open top holster that will fit a mid to large auto. My question is, do any of you out there in do this? I personally carry the pistol with me all the time. Just curious.

One thing that comes to mind is you may have been in a place where carry is prohibited. In many states, you cannot carry in any establishment that serves alcohol -- which includes most restaurants. He may have left his gun locked in the car for that reason.

Maybe he was having some "pops"?

Damn, Vern beat me to it!:cuss:

I've done this before, but I usually just lock the gun and holster in the trunk.

Maybe he was just trying to be "cool". "Hey, look at me, I've a CPL."

When I go into a place where carry is prohibited, I find it much easier to simply remove my gun and secure it in the car and leave my holster on. My normal carry holsters all have belt loops, so to remove the holster, I have to remove my belt.

When you get back to the car, it's much simpler just to reholster the gun than to remove belt, replace holster, etc.
