Hate integral gun locks.
The official distributor for BERSA here in the Philippines is where I got my Thunder 380 some time back:

The salesman warned me not to ever try to use a "gunlocked" BERSA, as it would damage the firing mechanism. So, if he wasn't lying...

then it's just breath-taking how much some idiotic legislation in another country can do to put me and my dearly-bought purchases at risk.

:barf:

The presence or absence of an integral lock has no bearing on my purchasing decision. I own one revolver with an integral lock. I tested it and it works but otherwise I don't mess with it.

For some people it seems to be almost a religious thing. Like cross-bolt safeties on lever action rifles.

I own a SA 1911 Mil-Spec, and it has the ILS. I have only engaged it once out of curiosity to see if it worked. I do not like this particular locking system, as it is not obvious whether it is locked or not by taking a quick glance. Additionally, it takes a pretty unusually shaped tool to disengage the lock. In an emergency situation the last thing I would want myself or my wife to do is to fumble with this very small mechanism. I never engage this lock and keep the "keys" in my toolkit. I personally would have less confidence in the gun if I used the internal mechanism over an external one under a stressful situation. In an emergency or stressful scenario I prefer to K.I.S.S. :D

P.S. I will soon be replacing the ILS mainspring housing with a traditional one.
