Okay, so I goofed. I intended to buy some Clays for use in some light .45ACP loads. I was instructed to not get "universal clays" but just plain old clays. Well, I bought International Clays by mistake. I don't load any shotshell cartridges (although, eventually, I probably will) now, but does anyone use it in any of the cartridges I do load: .38/.357, .30-06, 7.62x54R, 7x57, or .45ACP (and, perhaps, 9mm)? I can't find any data for it in any of my manuals.

Thanks

Nope, there isn't any data for Intl in pistol cartridges. Reason being that it will get nasty in a hurry. It isn't any use to you, sell it for what you can get or just put it on the shelf and go get the right powder. Even with a chronograph and a gun I didn't like I would not try to use it in a handgun.

Email Hodgdon or call them for further information if you feel the need.

HS--Where did you get the info on Intl Clays not being suitable for handgun loads?? Not calling you out, just curious. I always thought Intl Clays was just Hodgdons answer to Alliant Green Dot. Nick

I've never used International Clays, but according to the burn chart, it fits in around Green Dot, 700X, and W231 IIRC. What makes Int Clays unusable for pistols besides that fact there is absolutely no data for it?

Randy

I talked to Hodgdon about it after playing with it a little in 9mm. It goes NASTY in a hurry.

Call or email Hodgdon for further information if you feel the need.

If I find any load data on it, I might give it a go. But since the container still has the safety-seal intact, if anyone's near Centreville, VA, let me know and you can have it.

Can't you return it for an exchange...wherever you bought it?

I've used 231, Bullseye, and more recently "plain" Clays and I like it for in 38 and 45acp.

I think most places do not accept returns on powder. And, the $20 cost might as well serve as a reminder to not be an idiot next time.
