Does anyone have one of these? I have a chance to buy one and would like some opinions first.

From the standpoint of a collector I do sort of hate to see someone butcher a gun like an M-39. Still though, I have seen the targets from this rifle and it is a shooter. One three shot 100 yard group was about the size of a dime. I am probably looking to sell my FAL before too long and buy another M-39 anyhow so why not this one?

According to the owner the scope rail mounted on the side of the gun will accept any AK or Dragunov style mount.
Anyone know anything about that?
Can I get another mount that would allow me to mount a regular 1" scope on this rifle?

Any input that anyone can give me on this would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Price is $350.
I am leaning away from buying it. Still on the fence though...

Installing an AK or Dragunov type mounting rail on Mosin-Nagant type receiver is a challenging but not impossible. If you bolt the rail directly on receiver the mounting will be so high that shooting is practically impossible. The rail should be about one-two inches under the barrel line to have the optical axis of the scope in right height above the receiver. This can be done by welding a mounting plate on receiver and bolting the rail on it. Of course this looks not so stylish.

There used to be a Russian made low profile side rail mounting set that was made for Mosin-Nagant rifles. Last time I saw an ad of those was about a year ago, now they seem to be impossible to find.

BeLOMO factory in Minsk is making a weaver rail unit that fits on Russian side mounting rail. As this unit is made of steel, it wouldn’t be impossible to lower it into height that fits M-N.

It is also possible to remove the lower part of the mount from a rejected POSP scope and use that as a basis for custom made scope mount.

Up here we use in most cases custom made scope mounts when installing scope on “pystykorvaâ€. (That’s the nickname of our old battle rifle)

The gun I am looking at buying already has the mount on it. It does set high and off to the left and that is what is making me question buying it.
I love the feel of my M-39. If I have to throw my head off to the left to sight it, it is going to change that.
I am thinking that I might pass and go for another unissued one if I decide to get another one.

I wouldn't buy it. 350 is too much for a bubba'ed M39, IMO. You can buy a un-bubba'ed one and put one of Darrel's scout mounts on it (google it, can't really get a link right now) and put a scope on it without marring the gun at all. They're supposed to be rock solid, too.
