I'm new here so please bear with me. I'm studying to become a gunsmith after being laid off as a machinist. My uncle gave me his intratec protec .25. It locks back after firing a shell. You have to force it forward and kind of guide the new shell into the chamber. It ejects fine. The only other guns I have worked on are my own (Taurus PT1911, PT24/7pro, PT145-all .45s, mossberg 500A, and Marlin model 60), so I'm at a loss of what to do (haven't had any major problems w/ mine). I've tried looking online and got nowhere so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx.

something is binding, have you tried field stripping the gun then cleaning and lubing the slide? id also check for burrs, knicks and other irregularities. as far as feeding issues, your feed lips may be spread out, bent or worn, or a weak magazine spring, although i dont think that is the issue in this case.

when you pull the slide back manually, does it want to stick, or only when fired?

I field stripped and clean it. I use regular rem-oil on it to lube it. That didn't help so I used remington's dri-lube. Doesn't seem to help. The slide sticks when I pull it back manually and when firing it. The slide has to go back pretty far in order to chamber a round.

Diagnosing a gun problem like this is best done in steps.

Strip the slide and see if it sticks without the barrel & recoil spring.

Add the empty magazine and see if the slide sticks with it in place.

Add the barrel, but not the recoil spring & try it again.

At some point, you will add a part back that causes the binding.

Then you just need to figure out what to do about it.

It seems to be the slide binding against the frame when it gets to the very back of its travel. Do you think getting a new recoil spring would help pull it back forward? What would be the right tool to maybe open the slide a little? Or would it be easier to file the frame rails a little at the front?

I would look for a bur or galding on either the slide or frame.

Then remove it with a jewelers needle file.

Alternately, if you can find no burs or galding, you could use some JB Bore Paste and lap the slide and frame together for a perfect slip fit.

I got it fixed. It needed some filing on the slide where the hammer was gouging it. Works great now. Thanks for the help.

I have one of those little Protec 25's. I always liked mine until I broke a firing pin about 10 years ago. Double action only is what I liked so I carried one in the chamber........Mike

It seems to be a pretty nice gun. My only complaint for the short time I had it was the trigger. It had to go waaay forward before it would reset. Other than that it seemed alright.
