I don't know that you'd gain much from an AR in .22 over the 10/22, and the 10/22 costs less and cycles more reliably than most of the .22 AR's. The reason I like 9mm pistols is that 9mm is a very effective self-defense caliber, costs less than everything but .22, and has manageable recoil. What more could you want for your first handgun?
