I've posted this on 1911forum, but some competitors may not frequent there...

Anyone in Colorado willing to take an IPSC/3 Gun newbie under their wing? If so, please e-mail, PM, or post here.

Details/questions follow.

***

I'm finally getting the seniority on the job to get some weekend days off, and I'd like to try some IPSC, 3 Gun, and Steel matches.

I've shot and been an RO for IDPA with some success a few years back (has it been so long?), so I understand the safety requirements, range commands, etc. Do I still need to do a safety class/check, and if so, can I do it at the range before the match?

Also, what memberships are required?

Right now I've pulled Sundays, and I'm looking at attending the Weld match on 5/16, either the Clear Creek match or the Pueblo 3 Gun on the 23rd, and the Boulder Steel on the 30th.

I'll be at Weld, Aurora, and Clear Creek this month (gettin' ready for the state championship y'know!).

Sometimes you can get your safety check done right before the match at Boulder, but their match was last week so it'll be a while before their next one. The best way to get the safety course IMHO is to sign up for one of Paul Clark Sr.'s courses, but I don't know how frequent they are. He'll be at all those matches too so you can ask him, or you can call him, his number is on www.ecouspsa.com/schedule.html along with the other instructors. I took mine down in Pueblo right before the match, but driving down there is sort of a bummer.

But, since you've done IDPA, you might be able to get the match director to waive the formal safety course if you can demonstrate you know the rules etc. Dave Absmeier is the club president at Weld, you could call him and see what he says (he's a cool guy).

Oh and definitely plan on Boulder Steel! I can't make this next one because of the state USPSA match, which is a damn shame because they're the funnest (grammar?) matches around. The first match I ever shot was Boulder Steel, and they gave me a short safety course right then and there.

Monster - I'll be seeing you Sunday at Weld.

I spoke with Dave, and after discussing my background he's allowing me to shoot this weekend.

I look forward to having fun and learning as much as I can.

I'm fairly easy to spot, 6" SV with more holes than you've ever seen in a Limited gun, and bright green basepads on my mags :D

I met Dave at the Colorado State Steel Challenge match last summer. Dave is just one heck of a good guy. I am going to try to get down to Weld a couple of times this summer. Maybe I'll see you guys there.

Morgan,

Turnabout is fair, right?

I normally shoot the 3Gun matches at Aurora, and some of the Pueblo matches. I can help you get sorted out for 3Gun.
