As the headline tells you....

As for me living in Norway, I start thinking when are they coming after us...
IPSC is much bigger in Norway than in Denmark, but still, im getting tired of going around thinking when are they coming after us as well.
What we are doing now is to give money to our danish friends help them fight this.

Cut and paste from another forum, author is not me.

For a little more background.

Little over a year ago the justice department informed IPSC-DK that drawing a loaded weapon and moving with a loaded weapon is too dangerous and if we removed those two elements out of IPSC then we could continue to shoot IPSC in Denmark. I think they expected us to roll over and die quietly. We didn't.

IPSC-DK appealed the ruling and initiated several tests and collected statistics on safety, rewrote the rules and did everything possible to illustrate that if there was only one thing we knew, it was range safety. IPSC had been shot in DK for 30 years without incident, not even chess has such a safety record.

The justice departments own authority on shooting ruled that IPSC is as safe or safer as any other shooting sport in Denmark, real life instructors testified that IPSC has nothing to do with combat shooting etc etc. We presented this with a good feeling some months ago to the Justice department and were confident that we had proven that they can not ban our sport on the basis that it's unsafe.

The justice department were to have a meeting with the chiefs of police before summoning us for a meeting, this dragged on but finally two weeks ago IPSC-DK were summoned to JD for the meeting. No agenda or anything was given out, not even when pushed for.

At the meeting JD informed that IPSC is too dangerous and is now forbidden. PERIOD, end of discussion. Along the way there has been no documentation released from JD what so ever. Nothing, not even what they base their decision upon. Outrageous!

This is where we stand today. The board of IPSC-DK will meet Thursday to set the course of action for our appeal.
---------------

Staying calm is impossible when the authorities abuse their powers in such a grouse way.

This is just terrible. Hope they can reason with the goverment...

How horrible! The Nanny State as Frankenstein monster.

The government decides what is "dangerous" and thus not permissible. The consequences of the Nanny State: a government powerful enough to give you everything you want is powerful enough to take everything away from you.:uhoh:

Yes looks like it!!

I didnt realy want to go there, but Denmark has had some incidents along the lines of the famous video-clip where the undercover cop shoots himself in the leg.. So for them the answer is to forbid all other than the cops an military to do such "dangerous" stuff, remember they are the only ones competent to do such things...

What I am thinking is that the nordic countries is using Denmark as a testbed for outlawing IPSC in my country as well...

OWen,

They are specifically forbidding drawing a loaded gun, and moving with it...

Not much fun left then...

Ohhhhh, Ick!

Rats! Darn! Fooey!

Lived in Denmark for some years. Speak the language. Sort of.

What they have there is a "Social Democracy" or, in plain language, socialism.

I love the people there, but they are "managed" from cradle to grave in an ever-increasing number of life's domains. Not altogether unlike the progression we've watched in England.

If I recall rightly, they are still pretty big on freedom of expression, as long as it doesn't embarass the authorities (of various flavors) too much. Haven't been there since '82, so much may have changed.

I'm not sure what the best rebuttal would be, but I'd be inclined to offer
1) shooting is a sport
2) sports are a healthy outlet for personal expression
3) freedom of personal expression is essential to the well-being of a people

That probably sounds goofy, but if memory serves, it follows a thinking process that's not altogether uncommon there.

The safety record would, of course, be an important point on which to dwell.

You know who might have an even better handle on the Danish mindset? Our good friend The Emperor Misha at www.nicedoggie.net (Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler) who, if memory serves, was at one time in the Danish military.

By the way . . .

The shooting sports are represented at the Olympics, yes? I wonder if some flavor of the IPSC idea could be brought into that forum. Harder to ban an Olympic sport. The UN would probably find it a dreadful idea. Great! Let's do that!

It would be interesting to compute how many millions of rounds each year are expended during IPSC and similar shooting games, and then to tally up all of the accidents and injuries that have resulted.

That might be an eye opener.

Economic Argument?

Does the IPSC bring in any serious amount of money to DK?

Is there an economic impact to banning the sport?

It's been tried. Between the infighting that happened between USPSA and USA Shooting, as well as the anti-gunners screaming bloody murder the whole thing ended up getting shelved.

No IPSC denmark is very small, my club here in Norway have more members than nation wide in Denmark.

Thanks for the suport, lots of good thoughts and ideas here at THR!

Draw, Load, shoot required number of rounds for that part of stage, slide lock, run to next part of stage, reload, shoot, repeat as needed, not allowed to make up shots.

Sucks, hope you get it changed.

There is a fighting fund being raised for those who want to contribute a few bucks. The following info was posted on the IPSC Global Village forum:

Beneficiary: Dansk Sportsskytte Forbund
Swift-BIC : DABADKKK
Iban : DK69 3000 0005 546079
BG Bank
Nr. Voldgade 68
1390 Copenhagen
DENMARK

One can hope that police and military handgun training will also be shut down as too dangerous. But the police always exempt themselves from gun bans; it is all about power and who has it.

The scary part that you can be sure it will be brought up and UN meetings and the next thing you know the US and Canada will be signing some stupid international agreement to the same effect. The more government you get the worse it gets.

Both countries already have signed on to some of this kind of legislation already. If you don't believe me try manufacturing a rifle scope in the US and exporting same up here without an export permit from your big brother. Same for us shipping south. Just a lot fo nonsense that is costing the US manufacturing jobs.

Take care

Bob

Heaven forbid people there do anything that approximates any "combat shooting" in a simulated situation.

It'll make the coming dhimmitude all the more seamless.

That is what doesn't make much sense to me about it all. Europe is about to be totally transformed into a Muslim society in which they will likely have governments ranging anywhere from the government of Jordan or Palestine to the government of Saudi Arabia in terms of how people live (none of which is good), and they want to stop people from knowing how to use weapons? That will be the only thing that could save Europe. Oh well, the idiots never learn. They didn't learn from the Inquisition. Didn't learn from the World Wars, and they will pay the price.

Back to the topic. Hey it sucks. But you can move to the US. We could use more like you here.

Argh! I love my home country but stuff like this is rediculous. Well in a few more years when I can legally return to Denmark I can look forward to probably not being able to shoot guns at all.

Lucky:

What would help is if you have had similar problems in your own country and wish to give advice to IPSC denmark in how you solved your problems with goverment, as I think the Canadians went trough.
Send any valid advice to this E-mail: [email protected]
But use it only if you have specific advice, words of suport is good, but not to that mail adrress!

Also a donation too the fighting fond mentioned an other place on this thread, would be appreciated, they need money to fight this, and IPSC denmark beeing so small does not have enough money alone.

mordechaianiliewicz:

Would love to move to the US and start shooting whatever sport/tactical shooting I would want...

oo7:

Norway may or may not be a member of EU in the future, strong forces in both the socialdemocratic goverment and the more conservative opposition wants it, the people are very close to divided exactely in half. But EU is not the problem here, The EU countries can make such decisions themselves.
