Sooner or later this will become our problem, it always does.

So the question is how long do we wait before we step in?
They can and will become a threat that will be able to reach out and touch us
in ways that make 9/11 look like a bus accident. Do we wait till they have
built a viable threat that can be seen by all? Do we simply protect our
interests? Ignore and hope for the best.... we'll give in sooner or later and
intervene. The threat is real and will be pointing at us.

Uhhhhhhmmmm

Didn't some Jewish folks in certain parts of Europe have to do that about 70 years ago?

Yes Engineer, there might be an Einstein in that group. However, it seems that for every Einstein, there are 10,000 Ted Bundy's. I don't care to bet the future of my country on the off chance of drawing to an inside straight.

Might be a hoax, according to other reports...

-------------------

The National Post is sending shockwaves across the country this morning with a report that Iran's Parliament has passed a law requiring mandatory Holocaust style badges to identify Jews and Christians.
But independent reporter Meir Javedanfar, an Israeli Middle East expert who was born and raised in Tehran, says the report is false.
"It's absolutely factually incorrect," he told The New 940 Montreal.
"Nowhere in the law is there any talk of Jews and Christians having to wear different colours. I've checked it with sources both inside Iran and outside."
"The Iranian people would never stand for it. The Iranian government wouldn't be stupid enough to do it."
Political commentator and 940 Montreal host Beryl Waysman says the report is true, that the law was passed two years ago.
"Jews should wear yellow strips, Christians red strips, because according to the Iranian mullahs, if a Mulsim shakes hands with a non-Muslim he becomes unclean."

The National Post cites Iranian expatriots living in Canada as its primary source on the story.

I'm amazed that there ARE any Jews in Iran.
There are a few, but they're VERY careful not to be exposed. My brother-in-law is Bahai, and he had to flee when it became public knowledge.

So why do they stay? Well, there still is a "Persian" culture, and many Iranians love their country, yet despise their government. Others know that it is extremely difficult, if not impossible, to get out through legal channels.

If you're not with the majority, Iran can be a very dangerous place. But then again, that's true of much of the world.

Still, this seems a little extreme. I'd like to see some secondary sources.

If you take a look at history, not the narrow, near-sighted one that is all most Americans ever get, Islam ends up looking a whole lot better and Christendom a whole lot worse than you could believe. In the past couple centuries the Muslim world has degenerated and fallen apart. Much or most of it is backwards, superstitious, ignorant and bigoted. It was not always this way. In fact, until just a couple centuries ago the Muslim world was vastly superior to that benighted excresence sticking off the West end of Asia. Science, art, trade and the rule of law flourished.

And they treated Jews and Christians infinitely better than Christians could conceive of doing.

Yes, there was a dhimmi tax. Sometimes it was used oppressively. For the most part it was exactly as advertised. Non-Muslims could not be in the Army, so they paid a tax towards the military. In return they could and did demand military protection.

Forced to wear funny clothes? What do you think "Jewish clothes" are? Christians all over Europe made Jews dress distinctively on pain of terrible penalties.

Under the Caliphate Christians and Jews could own property, be in pretty much whatever profession they wanted, testify in court, and practice their religions freely even if what they did was forbidden to Muslims. That's why Iranian Jews and Christians are allowed wine to this day.

Until John XXIII (of blessed memory) said "These words must never be spoken by any Christian again" the Holy Father, Pope, Christ's Vicar on Earth was required to call down "G-d's curse on the perfidious Jew" and ritually kick and abuse the Chief Rabbi of Rome. No mullah or ayatollah was ever so instructed.

There were pogroms from time to time in the Muslim world. They were not the routine, officially sponsored affairs they were under the Czars.

In Muslim courts "al-Kitabu" could testify giving oaths that were appropriate to their religion. Germanic and Russian law required that Jews giving testimony be tortured.

Christians routinely expelled all their Jews. England, Spain, Portugal, German States, Italy, you name it. If they were lucky they were allowed the clothes on their backs. When the Spaniards exiled all the Muslims and Jews whom they did not murder the Sultan gave them refuge saying "Who are these madmen who enrich me by beggaring themselves?"

Murder of all Jews was never an official doctrine or policy under the Caliphate. It was the law for hundreds of years in Spain and Portugal and happened in England and other places.

The ghetto was a Christian creation, designed specifically to keep Jews isolated, poor and under surveillance. Why were Jews bankers, clothing merchants and doctors in days past? It's largely because of the Christians. In many countries such as the Italian States, those were the only professions Jews were allowed. I'm sorry. That's wrong. In Russian they were also allowed to be prostitutes. Whores were the only Jews allowed to travel freely.

In recent years Christianity has become almost civilized, at least until you scratch the surface and spot the Dispensationalists, Millenialists, Reconstructionists and Christian Nationalists. This was not always true. And Islam has gone downhill in a terrible way. But that wasn't how it was through most of its history.

So get off your high horses. The history of the Cross is at least as bloody, foul and evil as that of the Crescent.

There aren't many Jews in Iran. Most left after the founding of the State of Israel. But the ones who are there, like the Christians, are allowed to vote - in fact a certain number of Parliamentary seats are set aside for them - and to practice their religions.

Erik, your Bahai brother-in-law was forced to flee because he is considered something entirely different. Bahaiism is considered to be a Muslim heresy by the government. As such it is punishable by death.

As regards America's best interests, though:

---------------------------------------------------------------
She has abstained from interference in the concerns of others, even when conflict has been for principles to which she clings, as to the last vital drop that visits the heart.

She has seen that probably for centuries to come, all the contests of that Aceldama the European world, will be contests of inveterate power, and emerging right.

Wherever the standard of freedom and Independence has been or shall be unfurled, there will her heart, her benedictions and her prayers be.

But she goes not abroad, in search of monsters to destroy.

She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all.

She is the champion and vindicator only of her own.

She will commend the general cause by the countenance of her voice, and the benignant sympathy of her example.

She well knows that by once enlisting under other banners than her own, were they even the banners of foreign independence, she would involve herself beyond the power of extrication, in all the wars of interest and intrigue, of individual avarice, envy, and ambition, which assume the colors and usurp the standard of freedom.

-John Quincy Adams, 1821.

Biker,

That's most certainly true.

However unfortunately our national security (ie: international terrorism, stemming from that region) has forced us to take a more active roll in middle-eastern affairs post Sept 11th 2001.

Btw I would most certainly vote for Adam West in 2008!

Alright, everyone, contact your Congresscritters: let's push for the "United States of Batman" name change!

Hey, it sounds better than "United States of Bushman," right?

United States of The Hideous Hag From Arkansas?

On second thought, let's keep what we've got--although the Batman one is funny.

I make no judgement calls on which religion is better or worse, although tellner has some very good points and his words are all true. Certainly someone who wanted to show Islam as more repressive could make a strong case too.

Personally I think ANY cause that people view as more important than the benefit of humanity is asking for abominations to be done. As soon as you can say "this belief or loyalty is more important than the lives of others" then you have the stench of righteous slaughter not far behind. This applies to religious affiliation, political affiliation or cults of personality. If you'll kill for Christ or kill for Communism or kill for Charles Manson, you are equally abhorrent to rational thought.

Want the list of things worth killing for? It's a familiar one - life and liberty. No we don't get to add the pursuit of happiness.

Let them pass all the silly laws that they want. The more they do things that comport with their real world views, the more the fence sitters will realize how bad these people are.

Too bad the U.N. is so busy with higher priority matters like taking our guns, and telling us how to conduct our immigration policies; otherwise, maybe they could pass a resolution or two.

The thread title is mis-leading, not just Jews are being tagged, all non-muslims are including Christians

Iran's roughly 25,000 Jews would have to sew a yellow strip of cloth on the front of their clothes, while Christians would wear red badges and Zoroastrians would be forced to wear blue cloth

Well again looks like this is at best a misunderstanding and at worst a downright hoax, but in any event all the title would have been is incomplete, not misleading, and no doubt it was just snipped from Drudge etc for brevity.

Another potential reason is there's a rather well known example of this happening before focused on Jews (although even then they were not alone - gypsies and gays amongst others had to wear badges too)

Yet another potential reason (and this is from memory so may be suspect) is that to my knowledge Jewish far outnumber Xian permanent residents of Iran. It might be like saying that we want to address illegal immigration by securing the Mexican border. Certainly some illegal immigrants enter by ports, airports and through Canada, but it's not where the biggest emphasis does or should lie.

Hitler,Mousolinii,Stalin,N.Korea(Paul Pot)...........Iran........The evil will never stop. It's human nature..........:fire:

Iran, Venezuela, Mexico

Here's what we get for buying a $70 barrel of foreign oil.

It's not religion, it's money. We're pumping billions of dollars into these nutcases every month and were suprised when they start to act up? :fire:

Holocosts are happening all over the world, in one form or another. Plenty of black folks are getting greased as we speak, but nobody seems to care much about that.
