Iran eyes badges for Jews

Biker,

Yep I grew up watching the original television series, so Adam West will always be Batman to me.

As far as the famine, conflicts & genocides in Africa, well there really isnt any vital national interests/national security issues that would force us to act militarily (engage in regime changes, etc).

Sure we send billions of dollars & millions of tons of food in aid to Africa every year, but we've always sort of encouraged the more stable of the African nations to provide the boots on the ground (especially after Somalia) to try to curb the violence & genocide that is raging on their own continent.

Is it fair? is it racist?

I dont think its fair or racist, it would just be political suicide for Congress or the Commander in Chief to engage in major military operation(s) against a nation(s) for purely humanitarian issues when there is no national security issues involved.

My acid test has always been

"Does this guy think his religion or cause excuses him when he kills people who weren't trying to kill him?"

If it's a "yes" he's a dangerous fanatic, and keep those hands where I can see them. It doesn't matter whether he's in Al Qaeda, Jewish Defense League, Operation Rescue or the Tamil Tigers. When he crosses that line he's evil and dangerous.

No religion has a monopoly on this. None is immune, although the idea of militant Quakers and martyrdom-seeking Bahais is kind of amusing.

There are 30,000 Jews left in Iran, one of the oldest communities. The rest moved to Los Angeles and Israel.

If this is true, Israel MUST act now. … that the president of Iran will not celebrate his next birthday

Thanks tellner - identical in intent to, but much pithier and clearer than, my own attempt. I really have to work on brevity and clarity. I spend way too much effort on exposition and example. Thanks for the exemplar!

Pupppy==========It did not hurt Clinton with Bosnia. Nothing but humanitarian intervention and won not with the blessing of the UN. A liberal will never fight a war for defence of the USA.I wonder how many innocent children and adults we killed with all our bombs. Not a peep from the Democrats then they all supported it. No propaganda movies from Hollywood types. I have no problem with Bosnia but I hate the double standard. :fire:

Ermm actually 26 Democrats voted against the Balkan war, and a very significant part of the base - the progressive pacifist wing - certainly opposed it.

I didn;t but then I'm not a pacifist and certainly not opposed to violence to stop slaughter of innocents, even if a (much smaller of course!) number of innocents have to die in the process.

Now remind me how many US troops died during that one? What did it cost? How long was a significant troop presence there (no a few hundred peace keepers at about the same risk as troops stationed in Germany don't count)? Did we meet the objectives and have an exit plan and follow through?

Above all did some rambling buffoon tell people trying to kill us to "bring it on" and celebrate a completed mission currently 3 years too early and heading for 30 years too early?

Just a wee bit of a difference there, over and above the political affiliation of the CIC.

Seems the initial story may have been somewhat wide of the mark:

On Friday, the Canadian newspaper The National Post, quoting Iranian exiles, said the law would force Jews, Christians and other religious minorities to wear special patches of colored cloth to distinguish them from Muslims.

The report brought immediate criticism from the United States, which is locked in a standoff with Iran over its nuclear program.

State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said any such measure would be "despicable" and carry "clear echoes of Germany under Hitler" - referring to the yellow Star of David that Jews were forced to wear during the Holocaust.

He would not comment further, saying he did not "have all the facts" on the bill.

The Post said Friday that the law required Jews to wear a yellow strip of cloth sewn into their clothes, Christians to have a red one and Zoroastrians to wear blue. The copy of the bill received by AP did not mention minorities.

On Saturday, the Post Web site ran an article casting doubt on its earlier report. It cited the Iranian Embassy in Ottawa as denying the report and quoted Iranian exiles saying the law did not appear to have such measures.

The Web site did not post a correction of the original article. The Post did not immediately respond to e-mails asking for comment and Amir Taheri, an Iranian expert who wrote the original article, could not immediately be reached for comment.

That is a detestable lie, a slander and a piece of calculated poison from the crypto-fascist wing of the Republican Party.

It wasn't Wendel Wilkie who fought the Second World War. When Kennedy started and Johnson continued Vietnam your Party believed it was in defense of America. Others knew better, but your sort praised it. It is the Republicans who invaded Grenada, Panama and Iraq in complete violation of treaties that bind this country as tightly as the Constitution.

Agricola, I wouldn't say it was wide of the mark, I would say the information is unconfirmed at this time. The fact that Iranian embassy denies it doesn't mean that much. Isn't "diplomat" defined as "A good man sent abroad to lie for his country"?
