Is Alliant still in business?

If memory serves, during the last shortage, I believe Alliant was a bit harder to come by when powder first started to re-appear. Didn't really bother me then and I've stocked up since.

If I recall, Hodgdon uses the same distribution network as Alliant. The only difference is, Hodgdon sells some of their products online directly to the consumer. I just think it’s strange Hodgdon is shipping products from all of its brands while Alliant is absent from the market.
The real scary thing is, some folks have been speculating about Alliant selling itself to Hodgdon. As has been said, can’t happen because Vista already bought Alliant; but Vista sure has the clout and cash to buy Hodgdon.

Any more consolidation in the market would be harmful to the hobby and potentially catastrophic—a single source of failure. But, other than us who cares? Reloading is such a small slice of the market neither FTC nor DOJ would care if we faced anticompetitive behavior and might even like it (a conspiracy theorist might say). I mean, the feds over scrutinized the old OfficeMax/Office Depot merger because paper clips might be hard to come by.

I just know when I get the opportunity I’m stocking up. If I have to build a separate shed to accommodate the storage rules and limitations we discussed in that other thread, so be it, but to quote Scarlet O’Hara, “I'm going to live through this and when its all over, I'll never be hungry again.” (I believe that is the first GWTW quote on THR)

Whenever I've seen Aliant powder, it tends to disappear very quickly.
It has popped up now and then locally and online, but definitely less often than the Hodgdon powders. I did get a pound of Bullseye and a pound of Unique last year by walking into a LGS and pulling it off the shelf. Right place at the right time, I guess.

Could also mean Alliant powders may be more popular. ;)

During previous component shortages, I found out local gun stores had waiting list of customers who were contacted when a shipment was received. Often, popular items were sold out even before a single item from the shipment was put on the shelf. If you buy from LGS, it may help to be nice/friendly to staff/employees to receive a "heads up" call. :)

My LGS has had Alliant powder available at about the same intervals as that of other powder manufacturers. When Alliant was in stock at the same time as others, the Alliant powders seem to sell out more quickly than most others, the exception being the most popular Hodgdon lines such as Universal and HP 38.
