I have an AK-47, a Saiga-12 shotgun, and a CZ P-01. What is this "cleaning" and "lubrication" you speak of?

:D

I absolutely hate cleaning guns, but I'm not so sure a cleaning service would be an option. I've heard way too many horror stories about jiffy lube places. My siste-in-law came home to find oil all over the engine because the oil cap had never been reinstalled. A coworker had his transfer case drained but never filled up. He found out a month or so later when it burned up. My wife took her SUV in and they didn't replace one of the three screws holding the air cleaner cover down. I'm sure everyone in here has a similar horror story or knows someone who does. I'll just stick to doing my own vehicle maintenance and cleaning my own guns.

I enjoy cleaning my firearms, they take of of me, and I take care of them. It also gives me the chance to inspect the various parts and make sure everything is in order.

I definitely would not want someone outside my immediate family cleaning my firearms, way too many things can go wrong.

It feels good to do it.

But I don't wake up an hour early, all excited that it's gun-cleaning day, either.:)

I hate it. I will often go a year or more without cleaning mine. I hate the way solvent/oil gets all over me, the floor, the bench, the gun - everything. I hate walking around with my carry gun smelling like solvent/oil, and solvent/oil seeping onto my shirt or coat while carrying. I hate it.

I enjoy cleaning my guns. I don't do it religiously after each use, but after every 300 to 400 rounds I give them a good cleaning and lube.

I enjoy cleaning guns alot. I learned how to take apart a S&W model 422 the other day. I have to clean all my dad's guns cause he hates to do it. Also a friend of mine cause he hates it too.

I like doing it.
It's fun to see how things work, although when you return from the range and then have to run out again, I obsess about not having cleaned them for a day, so that's the worst part for me, not the actual cleaning.

I clean them after every range trip within 24 hours so far, usually as soon as I get home. But I've only shot 2 of the 3 so far so I don't have quite the variety to worry about...yet.

I like to clean the . .gives me a good excuse to avoid the in-laws when they're visiting.

One comment I saw earlier that blew me away was the guy who liked to clean revolvers . .that's the one thing I HATE cleaning . . .I could clean auto's all day long but I've never found a good way to clean the cylinder charge holes . . .seems like the patches always come out with SOMETHING on them. :(

I hate it in the winter, because it means going in the basement for a chore. OTOH, I love it in summer because I clean them outside. Better light, the great outdoors, my guns around me, life is good.:D

I really enjoy cleaning my guns and do so everytime I shoot, whether it's 20 rounds or 200 rounds. My shooting buddy is a federal courthouse guard and he thinks I'm a gun cleaning nut. He cleans my gun more often than his own, because he knows I care and if he wants borrow them again they come back spotless. Mike

I don't mind cleaning them. As 1blindref said "it's part of going shooting".

It's still not my favorite thing to do.

90% of the time it is a tiresome chore. Still, I find it hard to not clean them after shooting, it just seems wrong.

I particularly dislike cleaning revolvers.

So far, I basically like it :)

I have no plans (nor any demonstrated aptitude) for heavy gun-smithing; reloading seems to give me more than I'll ever be able to digest when it comes to hobby-value, but until I know my small stable of guns better than I do now, cleaning them adds to my understanding of how they work, how they're put together, etc. (Cleaning my Saiga has taught me a bit about how AKs are put together, for instance, even if it's not actually an AK by name ...)

This time of the year It kind of feels like a chore... I shoot often so it seems like they are only clean for a couple days before I take them shooting again. I love it in the fall... I relax on the couch on sundays.. waych football and clean my guns... very relaxing.

Like others in this thread have said, for me it's about the number of guns. One is no problem. But if I have half a dozen or more dirty at once, I hate it. It's a seriously tedious chore. Just the thought of it makes me decide to take less guns out to the range than I'd like to if I didn't have to clean em.

I realy like to clean myfirearms. Everytime I take them apart I learn a litle more or marvel a little more at thier build. It also feels great to start off with a dirty iron and end up with one looking all nice like. Its even more fun with the MGs cuz they get so much more dirty!
