s there ever gonna be a steady supply of decently priced handgun ammo? the only gun that i own and can ever find ammo for is my .40 cal.

im in the market for a small pocket/BUG gun. all of the guns i want are .380's and im beginning to wonder if its even worth buying one. if and when i get one, im going to want to test out ammo for obvious reasons.

i mean say i were to go out today and buy the .380 (CCW) that iv been wanting, i wouldn't even remotely be able to test it properly. if i did find ammo it would only be like 1 box and obviously thats just not sufficient when it comes to me trusting the gun/ammo.

so is there hope?

i wont even have my CC permit for a couple of months. so i have a while until il be carrying. the thing is i have the money now, and my LGS has both of the guns iv been looking at getting. they are both in new and priced very well so i naturally would want to get the gun now. that way by the time time i have my permit i will have done the necessary tests, and become familiar with the gun and trust it to carry. what to do......?????

well, if you're buying new, the gun should feed almost any major-name hollowpoint fine, as well as pretty much any range ammo with similar ballistics to the tactical stuff. I would just pick a well-known working ammo, and get whatever I could get for the range, test shoot both, and worry about something else if either was unacceptable.

I have only ever had one gun fail to cycle Gold Dots (or any other name-brand ammo, really), and that was a new-purchase CZ that wouldn't feed ANYTHING.

if you order from Midway or CTD, you have a good chance of recieving the ammo by the time you get your CCW.

I plan on picking up an XDm 9 as soon as I find a place to get it. I'll worry about ammo for it then (although I expect to be sticking with Gold Dot, and Winchester White Box for the range).

I guess one's experiences can vary widely, but it's not much of a factor for me. The shop I usually go to has most everything in stock, though not a lot of inventory. Another shop that's reasonably close that I checked out a couple of weeks ago had, honestly, thousands of boxes of ammo in every conceivable caliber. This obviously can vary quite a bit, but even if you're seeing shortages at this moment, it's a very transitory situation.

that must be awesome. seriously, iv forgotten what its like to see anything but .40 s&w and 22lr.

i went into my favorite guns shop the other day and a friend who works there had 2 100 rnd boxes of 9mm fmj's in the back and sold me one for 30$. that was the first time iv been able to find it in forever! its sad really. and that was a great price for this time and place.....

Surprised the heck out of me, I actually saw .380 on the shelf- about 12 boxes worth.

Since the guns themselves aren't that hard to get right now I'd work on tracking down a couple boxes of ammo first. Ifyou can, buy the gun.

Like you said, you have a couple of months to pull this off.
