Is it legal to just keep a handgun at home for self defence without any license since it's not carrying a handgun concealed?

Purely a state and local matter.

The only firearms license in Ohio is a Concealed Handgun License (CHL). There are NO other licenses, nor registration.

In California yes it is legal.
No license required whatsoever to own a rifle, shotgun, or handgun.
Nor to have one loaded and carry it openly or concealed in the home, at your business, on property not open to the public, at your campsite or at another temporary or permanent residence.

In most states of the nation no permit is required to own and store at home. In others you need a license or permit of some sort to exercise your 2nd Amendment.
You know, like your free speech license required to speak about certain topics or in certain locations. And your voting license... Oh wait...

So clearly what state you are from is pertinent information to give you an accurate answer.

A rather loaded question - - -

In an earlier post you wrote that you live in Korea. Few, if any, members living in other countries will be able to give an answer that applies to you. In fact, laws vary between jurisdictions within the United States of America.

I'm pretty sure that Wikipedia.org has a Korean version. In that you have computer and internet access, surely you can utilize the various search engines, such as Google, Yahoo! and Ask. I believe you'd do well to check on-line sources within Korea.

Good luck to you.
