I have an STI Trojan 5.0 9mm. I'm always interested in versatility, and so my question is "Is it possible to do a simple barrel switch to a 38super, yea or nay"? Appreciate any input. (BTW I'm finding I like shooting the Speer Gold Dot +P better than WWB. Seems to cycle the slide a bit better than regular ammo).

Yea.
I don't know the particulars of a Trojan, some 9mms have really long ejectors that might have to be shortened for .38 Super... and would still work with 9mm. You might have to adjust or exchange extractors between rimless and semirimmed, I have had one that required it, one that did not.
Unblocked magazines, of course.

Check the breech face to be sure a 38 Super rim will fit without binding. I think most 9mm slides will accept the 38 Super, but if you happen to have one that was milled on the tight side, it might not work. Otherwise, I say a barrel change, maybe a recoil spring change too and you should be set.

The answer is "NO". You also need to change recoil spring, mainspring, magazines, and re-time it and tune it. A new barrel and bushing would have to be fit, they seldom drop in so if you want any degree of accuracy, this has to be done. The 9mm breechface can be OK but in a tight gun, it would be a little smaller. Also might have to re tune the extractor for the rimmed 38 Super case. I can convert Star Model B's with a barrel reamer, but they were built to fire either round with a change of chambers.

Thanks for all the info everybody! I guess if I wanted to get a 38 super I'll just buy another gun. :D

9X23

You could change it to 9X23. Rechamber the gun, change the recoil spring and get some different magazines.

You could no longer shoot 9x19 though, because they space on the cartridge mouth.

9X23 is 357 magnum specs without as much recoil. It really is a great round.
