Is it possible to have too many guns?

BTW, how many guns does it take to make an arsenal?
Abe ... actually the ''arsenal'' per se is where weapons are manufactured or built, serviced etc. The storage place for weapons would be an ''Armory'' The media has unfortunately so over-used ''arsenal'' - it has almost become the norm for people to read that as ''Armory''.

Preacherman has broken his inventory down usefully ... of course if we pluck the ''total'' figure out of the air ... it can seem to some (they know who I mean! :barf: ) as being ''excessive'' or ''outrageous''!!

Even having more than one example of the same is hardly a problem ... if considered that one might be everyday carry, one semi ''safe queen'' .. and one perhaps medium useage without the scars of carry.

Then there is the pure collecting aspect .. the ''one of each model'' approach like tams ... another valid way to go.

C&R's certainly quickly and easily swell the total figures .. then specific hunting pieces deserve their own category. Defence weapons ... another section and yes, training too.

The final one which Preacher' mentioned is also quite useful ... ''trading'' .... it is useful to make an aquisition when possible and the deal is good .. so as to have material with which to later trade.

Someone asked how many guns can you get while still being under the ATF's radar... Well, a good friend of mine, quite a bit older who has been collecting for years, he has had the ATF come to his door twice... Just to check in with him they said, about a few of his recent purchases. One time it was when he bought about 12 of the same rifle from one shop. Apparently, he had been buying up a bunch of these junk guns and wanted to build a few good ones out of many. They were wondering why he wanted so many of the same gun  I can't rightly recall the second time, but, he's always told me that they'll never bother you unless you buy a lot of the same gun from one location.

Too many guns?!

HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!

Kidding right?

Not quite up in the rarified atmosphere of Preacherman, Tamara & Hkmp5sd; only about 50...

But let me contemplate this for a moment? And resuse an picture I posted a long time ago...

As a collector, I would say NO!

Handguns: You have to have one of each caliber don't you :D (I was close until I found out that they made handguns in weird calibers  (;) ).

Rifles: Didn't really enjoy rifles... until I got my C&R :uhoh:

Other: This catagory is actually named the "Just Because" catagory. Only gunowners would understand this one :D

too many?

I'm kind of stuck at 41, but this year I made a promise not to buy one I've had before or a second one of the same type. But then I'm working on another Luger and a second Radom. And then that's it. I swear.

Mastrogiacomo:

I have a friend that doesn't live too far away from you that numbers his collection to be around THIRTY ONE HUNDRED PIECES!

You really have to get going to catch up .........

Lots o' luck.

If you want a collection to drool over, I know a fellow that has a little over 300 registered machineguns. Of course, he started collecting them in the 40s. I keep asking him if he wants to adopt me. :) No luck so far.

A gentlemen out here who does firearms classes and is also a LEO instructor was telling ust that he moved some of his collection into a storage container, and when the moving company weighed it, it was official:

HE HAD A TON OF GUNS!!

Yes I believe it is possible to have to many guns. I will let you know when I get there.

Lets see... four gun cabinets and three pistol safes. That adds up to - - OH OH better not tell the wife.

The best Part is I can still think of a lot of things I wish I had. Ain't this a fun hobbie!!

An argument could be made that if you have more guns than you can shoot, you have too many. The argument would not be made by me, mind you, but it could be made :D

I'll never be able to have all the ones I want, so I don't really have to worry about having "too many."

When I bought my first gun, I thought it was all I was ever going to want.
One gun for every day.
A few years later, due to an incredible deal, I wound up with a 4" DA .357 magnum dan wesson.
Two guns, one for hunting/target shooting, one for self defense.
Two guns, one for each use.
Then I bought a .45 auto H&K.
This one superceeded the .357 for home defense, and the dan took up a temporary role as woods gun.
Wasn't long after that I had 7 handguns, one for every day of the week.
Maybe after I have 365 guns, one for every day, then I'll have too many.

I first bought my guns to hunt with. Well, I now have both rifles and handguns capable of any animal I'm ever going to have the chance to hunt. I wanted some target guns and now have enoguh for any range target work I'll ever do. So, why do I buy more? I like western history and the guns of that era. That causes me to favor the Ruger SA's therefore, when I see one I like the looks of, I'll save to buy it. I like the quality, craftmanship and design of the nicr European handguns. Therefore, I bought a few Hks and am now looking into a high-end .22 handgun (Pardini, Benelli). Need 'em? no but I sure do enjoy them.

I just thought of something... too many guns:

I live in a, well, older house that if the termites ever let go of each others "hands" then it would fall down (family owned home). And, I've yet to decorate it.

Then I got a C&R.

I owned a Norinco SKS before hand. Then I got a Yugo, then I found an Albie, then I looked around today and found a Romanian as well as two Russians.

I'd been thinking of decorating my walls with collections. First the SKS's, then the Nagant Revolvers, by year.

I just put the Romanian on lay-a-way. Matching numbers and all. I plan on getting the Unissued Russian in two weeks.

I plan on starting a collection of Nagant Revolvers, by year.

All of these will be show cased on the wall of the living room.

Too many guns... I don't know, maybe when your house looks like a gun store then you may have too many guns :D.

I don't think you can have too many guns. Even if you can't/don't shoot all of the on a regular basis... ITS NICE TO SHARE.

I once read the following;

"you can never have too many guns and the only time that you have to much ammo is when your house is on fire."

I don't think I will have to worry about ether.

When I start to think I have to many guns I just remmember that I only have 4.2 for each year I am old. That doesn't seam like many.
