If you hold longer than 8 seconds, your heart rate and blood pressure will make the muzzle hop. Thats been my competition experience.

A Tennessee Small Bore Prone champ told he, he lets the front aperture bounce up and down, then settle, and he gets his shot off within four seconds. He explicitly warned about holding the breath too long.

For Bullseye Pistol, holding my breath does not affect anything as I usually have my head turned away, eyes closed, and am flinching, when the 45 ACP goes off!
