Is R51 a damaged goods for ever now ?

I don't think its just the R51, I'm beginning to wonder about the company as a whole.

I probably have to agree. Although my original R51 works and i have elected to keep it, but I have purchased several Remington rifles over the past decade and they just do no measure up to my expectations.

After some work and TLC, they work fine. my XR-100 is the best and Remington discontinued it.

I fondled the "new" R51 at the NRA Nashville extravaganza and it looked good.

I'm interested and look at the R51 when it returns to the stores, but time will tell.

When they first came out, a bunch of my buddies were interested. At the NRA convention that year, we made a bee-line to Remington and to the big table full of R51s. Simultaneously, we each picked one up and simultaneously we each said some variant of "eeew" and put them back down.

A more rattly, cheesy piece of junk firearm I can't imagine (and I've had some doozies).

That was before the recall.
The action on my R51 was awful. To shoot it was another matter altogether. No point beating a dead horse though. If Rem never delivers an R51 or any other substitute pistol to me I'll be out $350, I'll be disappointed but not worth losing sleep over.

My humble opinion is they should never have price-pointed the pistol so low. If something is out of the ordinary and a good shooter, they didn't need to.

Remingtons new plant

My understanding is that the new R51 and the RM380 will be produced at Remington's new plant in Huntsville, AL. So, as soon as the plant is up and running is when you can expect any new handguns to come out. I don't know what the opening date of that facility is, or if it is open already????:banghead:

Folks at the Rohrbaugh Forum follow developments with the RM380 pretty closely since it is basically the Rohrbaugh R380 with a slide catch and mag release buttons on the side instead of heel release. A lot of R9 owners like myself would love to have a R380 to go along with our Rohrbaugh R9 and the Remington RM380 is as close as many of us are ever going to get that now.

I've heard one person say the RM380 is closer to a Kel-Tec than the original Rohrbaugh R380, but I've also heard a few people say that Remington "got it right" with the RM380 - which just means that they didn't mess up an already working design.

At one time both Academy and Cabelas had the RM380 listed online, but now neither of them do.

They were supposed to be out in the August - September time frame, so any day now...

I was one of the many who was in such a tizzy to get an R51 when they first came out... then the reports started flooding in. To say the gun was a collosal failure was an understatement, Remington deserves nothing but shame for the product they were putting out.

When, or IF, they decided to put the R51 back out it better be a DARN good gun with no problems to report. If so, I might still buy one.

I will buy one if they get their sh*t together and produce a reliable gun. I will keep an eye out on the forum for reviews once the new incarnation hits the market to see if there are favorable reviews. I don't want to be a beta tester. I love the looks of it.

Bikemutt, I could not agree more with your viewpoint. Instead of engineering this to a Kahr CW series pricepoint...they should have targeted pricing / quality to compete with a Sig 239.
