Is the S&W SD series trigger better than Sigma & M&Ps?

I have seen the new S&W SD line for sale now at online retailers for a lil' while now. Has anyone had the chance to handle or fire one yet? Thoughts on the trigger pull would be greatly appreciated especially from those who have felt the M&P trigger.

Also does anyone know if Sigma or M&P mags will work in the SD series?

My friend bought one last month at the gun show. I have 3 sigma's and 4 M&P's. The "Self Defense" SD9 is a fantastic shooter and a great bang for the buck. It has a significantly nicer trigger than the Sigma line but its still not equal to the M&P.

It has 850rds through it now and the trigger has gotten even better with every round fired.

I agree with King. I've handled the new SD guns and to me they seem like Sigma-ish frames with M&P slides. The trigger in my opinion falls somewhere between the two guns. Much, much better than the gritty Sigma triggers but not quite as good as the M&P. Close, but not quite.
Nice guns though. Price point also falls between the Sigma and M&P and I think S&W is probably going to sell a ton of these things. It's not a "cheap" gun like the Sigma but not as expensive as that fancy M&P. I think S&W has a winner here.

IMHO, S&W just changed a few things with the Sigma and renamed it.
Not a bad thing though, as I feel Sigmas are the best value on the market today.

Way better than the Sigma----a little heavier but not quite as mushy than the M&P---overall I think the trigger is actually better than the M&P---but I never really had a problem shooting accurately with a Sigma either.

Agreed!... It is very difficult for me to describe, but there is SOMETHING about the SelfDefense that does feel better in the trigger than the M&P. I do think the M&P is an overall nicer trigger though.

Got the SD9. Trigger is not bad at all. I stroke it through like a revolver or a Kahr. Hard to stage the trigger, seems to break clean too. It does get smoother after a couple hendred rounds. Nice gun all around.

Just for every bodies information. The long rumored Apex S&W SD trigger is out to the Beta testers. Initial reports are that the Apex S&W trigger drops the pull 1.2 pounds. On a well broken in SD this results in a trigger pull between 6.0 pounds and 5.8 pounds. down from 7.4 to 7.0 pounds. The kit also addresses over travel.

This should be sort of a game changer for the $380.00, G-19 sized S&W SD's

"WOW6599" is correct - The 'SD' IS a Sigma.

Maybe it has a lighter trigger spring or something... but the complete slides, mags, and receivers are 100% interchangeable between the two models. You can literally field strip a Sigma and an 'SD', and re-assemble them with each others parts. I've done it.

"Tier" - it may SEEM like a 'game changer' if your looking at it like a $380 G19... but when you look at it as a Sigma + $100 ... it gets less sparkly. Still a good gun overall though; the heavy trigger was the only thing really wrong with the original Sigma.

I got my SD9 a couple weeks ago, and I feel it is an ergonomically correct version of the G 19 with a front Trijicon night sight and a better trigger ( also a nice steel, snag free rear sight). I really like it and believe it would be hard to find a nicer pistol for less, I only paid $380 for mine. I also compared the trigger to my buddies new SW40VE, and it is way way smoother and better!
I really like my SD9!!
