From S&W offical facebook page the SD9 & SD40 are being discontinued. I have been wanting one for a while. Most reviews seem positive. The "worst" reviews seem to call it an upgraded Sigma (better trigger, sights, finish). The Sigma seems to get great reviews (minus the trigger) so an updated version seems like a good thing to me.

I decided to go ahead and get it since it was being discontinued. I figured if I wanted one new, I need to bite the bullet. I have never bought a gun before because it was being discontinued. What are your opinions on the SD series, and have you ever bought a gun when you realized it was being discontinued?

before I put the money down, I compared it to the Sigma and the M&P. the price difference was: (Only shop in town with a SD9 in stock...Sportsman's Wharehouse)

Sigma $339
SD9 $379
M&P $519

I could deffinately justify pay $40 more for the SD vs Sigma, but I could not justify paying $140 more for the M&P vs SD. The trigger is better on the M&P, but not $140 more IMHO

Pictures and range report coming!

I checked them out and it seemed like I would just be paying more to get a prettier sigma. I payed the extra $ and got an M&P instead.

I'm not surprised they didn't sell well. Those that want a dirt cheap gun bought the sigma still and those that wanted a bit more got the M&P. The SD is just the middle man that most people pass over.

I agree they are absolutely stuck in the middle of the Sigma and M&P. But I think they are a little more than a better looking sigma. Trigger is much better than the Sigma (IMHO) and the sights are better. To me that is worth $40. The difference in price seems to be close from Sigma to SD. The gap grows though from SD to M&P

Most got Ruger SR9 instead. Another winner for smoking hot Strum & Ruger Co.

SD9 Discontinued? Why? Doesn't seem like they where making them for very long.

It was a gun created to solve a problem that didn't exist. The M&P had it beat in every manner, and usually cost only 50-100 more. Most people either scrounged up the extra money for an M&P, or just went cheap and bought a Sigma. There was absolutely nothing exceptional in any way about the SD to make it stick out. I'm just surprised that they even went ahead and produced it.

I see lots of SR9's in the hands of happy owners. They're hard to beat at the >$400 pricepoint.

Those guns really are a great deal. I hate flip up LCIs, but I could probably get past that. The ergos are also really good on that gun.

I think S&W should've released it as a Sigma II and dropped the old Sigma from the lineup, or found a way to incorporate the new trigger into the older model.

Maybe they will fit the cheaper to produce sigma top end on the updated SD lower. Then you could keep the sigma price point and have an updated gun.

Strattles the market a bit too much. The Sigma is an excellent choice for those on a budget and if you're going to spend some more for more quality, you might as well go all the way up to to an M&P.

Plus the more gun variants in your product line the more expensive it is to run production on all of them. FN just dropped the FNP in favor of the FNX and FNS. We'll see, but with their more recent introductions, if Ruger can drop the price of the SR9 to match I'd wager that the P95 won't be around a whole lot longer either.

Which is why I'm amazed that companies like Taurus can afford to run so many different models at once.

Galloway Precision will get rid if it for you for $15.

That is very cool. Can the manual safety be removed too?
