Highland Ranger,
Do you have a 21 inch barrel one? Mine is a 16 inch, and I haven't noticed it being barrel heavy. I've been thinking of getting a 21 inch one in the future, and I may well try your shot idea if I find it barrel heavy.
Dr,
I know what you mean about the tools. I'm hardly a machinist-- I'm an investment manager LOL!
From what I can see about the conversions (and granted I haven't DONE one yet) it seems that you can get away with:
1. a drill press (someone you know has to have one-- my paw-in-law has the one I use)
2. a pin punch ( a couple bucks at any hardware store)
3. a center punch (a couple bucks at any hardware store)
4. cobalt bits (20-30 dollars)
5. a tap (Dinzag's bullet guide comes with the tap)
6. MAYBE a $20 dollar dremel (which everyone in the WECSOG is REQUIRED to have at all times! LOL)
7. A couple C-Clamps (5-10 dollars)
I'm not saying you have to go out and get everything now, but if you wanted to in the future. Once you have your rifle, there is no rush.
The conversion PARTS you'll need is:
1. US Made Trigger group: Tapco is good. about 40 bucks
2. US Pistol grip: Have them everywhere. about 5 bucks
3. Bullet guide: I'll have to check dinzag's price-- or you could make one with a piece of pipe (not recommended.)
4. US Rear Stock: Various places at various prices.
5. A few screws to move trigger guard (of drive screws which I will be using)
6. Filler for the two left-over holes (or drive screws which I will be using)
Anyway, either way you go, you'll be fine. If you need any help I will if I can. If I can't, I can point you to those who can.
All the best!
John
