Is the STI LS9 really a 1911?

I'm wanting a 1911 in 9mm. I notice that the STI LS9 is quite a bit cheaper than the Ranger II model etc. BUT, is it really a 1911?

Are they any good? Am I better off going with something else? (Pay more for the Ranger II?)

The LS9 is a 1911-style pistol, but many of the parts are not 1911-standard. For example, the mainspring housing is different, and the slide stop does not lock the slide open when the last round has been fired.

They are not a 1911, but are quality guns. FBMG is doing a STI group buy right now on the group buy forum.

Yes, I know about the group buy. That is why I am frantically trying to decide what to do.

Why do you think the LS9 is so much less than other STI's.
