Hey guys. I have been looking into a carry 1911 chambered in 9mm. I have looked at the EMP, CDP, Ageis, Hawg, M-5, and a few others.

The one that i am most interested in is the STI LS9 and the STI Off duty. I have read horrible reveiws of the LS-9 and cant find any info on here about the Off Duty.

So does anyone have any experience with the Off duty and or any other compact 1911 chambered in 9mm. Thanks in advance everyone.

I've seen quite a few EMP's choke and most I know of who own them have had to send them in or got rid of them all together...

I've seen STI Trojan 9mm's run flawlessly at many matches, enough where I'd bet on the STI's working more often than not, that said, 9mm 1911's seem to be tricky as it is, and compact 1911's seem to be hit or miss even in .45 after all these years... If anyone can make it work I'd bet on STI, their 1911's kill everybody else's I've ever seen under the hard use you see in gun matches, they're made to be shot, not just sit in a safe.

The STI Off Duty is a lot more 1911 than the LS. The LS is 1911 in shape only and at that only at first glance. STI makes fine competition pistols that cycle even low power ammunition, so I'm sure the LS will run just fine but it looks like a 1911 bad dream.

A shooting freind of mine has a Springer EMP 9mm.

I get to shoot it anytime.

It shoots great. Small groups. No jams.

It has a nice light trigger as well.

Nice gun.

Have they fixed the LS9's issues?
You might want to research that before buying. No one was happy with their LS9 when I was doing my own research.

My EMP .40 was a tack driver, I did trade it, due to it's weight. It's heavy reinvented 1911 model scaled down to the 9mm round. The .40 was the same. So all the parts were reduced in scale instead of putting a chopped off commander slide on an officer frame. BUT, I was in love with the way the gun was put together, and it ran 300 to 400 rounds without one hiccup, 3 types of FMJ, 3 JHP P+ loads. It was nice, just heavy and sharp.

I was going to send it to Dave Severn's and have the back of the slide smoothed and dehorned as much as possible, it's not out of the box at all, and we are talking CCW, I will do the same to whatever I end up with, no one makes one yet that smooth. Come on DW!! Feed the Need

The Springer Micro .45 on the other hand weighs 24 oz. and is not photo's here. I like it and will be doing the work to it instead, and have the finish redone, it will have to be. I am going to use a type of ion bonding.

The black .45 is the office Framed CCO (4.25 Slide), the size of the grip is almost the same, look at the hard edges you have with the EMP compared. It's a little more work, but it should be offered I think, the goal is not to hate to carry, make it work for you. Just so you think about it when looking.

The EMP was a great firing gun, even with a body shelled that thing has 3 Sharp edges, drop a round and take the bumper of the mag and you then have one less round.... and 2 sharp edges

hope that helps, i am shopping hard also for something like you are, same questions, just thinking ahead because hindsight's 20/20 right?
Was not trying but in I hope you don't mind I wanted to offer those thoughts too.

Para had a new PDA out and it looks fantastic, lighter, but I don't know Para that well.

my 2 cents......the Para looks good, just don' t have much experience with them.

Be well gentleman, have a good weekend, and OP, good luck bro!

Thanks for all the info guys. I am really trying to find a dealer around me that carrys some STI product so I can handle them but I havnt had any luck yet. I am really leaning towards the STI Off duty know and if i do decide to get it I will give a range report. Thanks again.

I looked at the STIs and was not impressed with their machining. Looking at the back end seems awfully sloppy for a company website presentation. Looks like you could drive a truck through the frame/slide gap...and the gaps aren't even spacing between the left and right sides.

Don't know what you saw. Every STI gun is hand lapped. The frame/slide is a perfect marriage.

Order from Dawson Precision or Brazos Custom. Both are excellent sources for STI guns. I bought my STI Trojan through Dawson Precision.

I employ an LS9 as my EDC weapon. I too read the terrible reviews. However I have learned that most of the people writing those reviews have never even picked one up. STI worked the original bugs out and the little LS9 runs like a swiss watch. It is also one of tightest 9mm's I've owned to date. It shoots where you point it, and Ive yet to have a hiccup in appx 500 rounds give or take.

Ive got a Shadow in 9mm. It is reaosnably accurate for a 3" gun, and has been very reliable. The finish sucks and wears worse than Kimber's KimPro which is saying something. STI has very good customer service on the other hand. I like that the sights are recessed into the slide makingthe gun very snag-free.
