YEah, its so freaking accurate is all i can say in the K 31 rifle. I got a 3/4 inch group at 100 yds on sandbag when i shot mine months ago. And many say its just much better , of course , we have the moden .308 caliber of today which is almost par in performance.

Yes. The updating of the original round (1889) that occurred in 1911, resulted in the 7.5x55mm GP11 cartridge which is very similar, ballistics wise, to the much later 7.62x51mm nato round.

Just as the 6.5x55mm Swedish Mauser round (designed 1892-1894) was also somewhat ahead of it's time. Particularly in the use of non-corrosive primers.

Both Cartridges gained a well deserved reputation for accuracy due in large part to excellent quality control, both in the manufacture of the ammunition and the rifles.

No doubt helped by the fact they were not being invaded by anyone at the time.

As I understand it, the GP11 is essentially match grade ammo.
So yeah, it should be accurate.
A K31 is on my shortlist of future milsurp purchases, fo sho.

Any opinions on the PRVI stuff? I know the GP11 is HIGHLY regarded and it will be my first choice when I find some, but in the mean time, I have a convenient source for the PRVI. All accounts I have found say it "is not as good as the GP11." No actual opinions as to its performance without the aforementioned comparison.

Good link Hatterasguy... interesting read.

Since my last post I have looked and found the GP to be available at several places... best price seems to be around $0.50 per round... guess I will have to put in an order soon...

Were you using iron sights or scope for that 3/4" group?

I went shooting with my (new to me) K31 just yesterday with iron sights on a bench rest, using GP11. The best I could do at 50yds was ~1.5" group. After reading many people claiming <=1MOA accuracy, I was disappointed with the performance of my test firing.

So I am trying to decide if the poor group is:
a.) the limit of rifle & ammos inherent accuracy
b.) my ability to shoot iron sights

If its (b) then I will practise for a while more and eventually attach a good scope (Nikon Monarch).

If its (a) then I will likely shelve it or sell it.

What do y'all think?

Drewtam? Don't stress over it too much. There are a few things to consider here.

1. The sights are not the best. Acceptable? Yes. Equivalent to an aperture on the receiver? Not even close. Some people have a hard time with these, myself included.

2. To put it politely, not all internet accuracy claims are, well, accurate. ;)

I'd say to just go ahead and scope it, but doing it correctly costs a few bucks. This would be an expensive way to find out that it really was a problem with the rifle. Know anyone else that has one that you can shoot?

K31 = Great Rifle / GP11 = Great Ammo

At least in my experience.

Here's a 100 yard sighting in target for my K31 with an S&K scope mount and Simmons 4x32 Prohunter pistol scope. Just a couple of the usual range sandbags under the fore end. I need the scope, over 40 year old eyes in this shooter's skull. :p

I shot mine open sight . Surprisngly im comfortable doing it even at 100 yds.

That's not bad for the first time shooting your rifle. The open sights on the K-31 are good but it takes some practice to get used to them. The K-31 really shines when you mount a scope.

+ 1,000,000
Internet MOA is about three times smaller than real world MOA.
