Is the true Libertarian spirit dead on THR?

Sometimes, doing the right thing may not succeed, but you have to do it anyway. Libertarianism is probably such a cause. It may never succeed, because so few people really value freedom, but I will still support it, because I believe it is the right thing to do.

“Conservatism†is in no way synonymous with freedom. Part of the reason I support the right to keep and bear arms is so that the people will retain the ability to defend the freedoms—by force, if necessary—that “conservatives†would destroy under their ideal authoritarian and/or theocratic state. In my opinion, the petty fascism of American “conservatism†is just as dangerous as the casual socialism of American “liberalism,†if not more so.

I’ve said this before, but I’ll say it again now. If gun owners want to protect their Second Amendment rights, they have to support other freedoms as well—including the ones they don’t like. As a start, stop attacking the First Amendment in your quest to eliminate “pornography,†“anti-Christian persecution,†“sedition,†etc. and the Fourth Amendment in your desire to protect us from “drugs,†“abortion,†“terror,†etc.

And if we can stop wasting our time trying to tell each other how to run our lives, then maybe we can do someting about our borders.

It is very unlikely that any political part will ever cater to your beliefs 100% of the way. In this situation, one must make a decision as to who would represent their beliefs the most. That is probably why people still consider themselves a libertarian even though they do not agree with the entire party platform.

Voting Libertarian takes votes away from both the Demos and Reps. It is not a wasted vote.
That debate is getting tired and has no merit in my opinion.

If the mods insist upon monologue as opposed to dialogue, then I'll just remove the entire post.

Dunno where I ran across this, but it strikes me as reasonably wise:

"You have no duty to understand me. It is my duty to make myself understood."

The converse is also true.

Browsing through lengthier threads, it seems to me that some folks go to talking past each other, just because of a lack of clarity in expressing thoughts.

Just a point to ponder...

One thing that continues to amaze me is that it escapes the mental grasp of various users on this board that many people still vote based on a candidate that matches their political viewpoints as closely as possible. Some here simply believe you should only be voting for the 2 major parties...give me a break. If you want to vote libertarian, fine....want to vote constitution, fine....want to vote for the communists, fine. Hey at least the communist party doesn't hide their goals as opposed to some other parties that I won't mention right now.

So...what gives?
How many Democrats support everything the Democratic Party advocates?
How many Republicans support everything the Republican Party advocates?

Vote for the person who supports your interests - but vote.
