I'm planning on getting my CCW soon and need to start picking out a compact pistol. I have fired the Kel Tec .32 and .380 and did not enjoy
shooting either of them.

I'm open to all recommendations and they can be a little bigger than than the
Kel Tecs and Ruger LCPs.

I'm actually curious if I would like the Glock 30.

I enjoy my Glk 26 and my 642 becaue I have sort of mastered the guns I carry but I really don't know what you mean by fun.

For (MY) fun I have a buckmark camper 22 cal

Try a Kahr MK9, S&W M&Pc in 9MM, or Springfield EMP 9MM.

The problem you'll run into is that the easier the gun becomes to shoot, the more difficult it will be to hide due to size/weight/bulk (in theory).

+1 on the Glock 26, fun to shoot as long as you have the magazines with the little pinky finger extension on it. I have larger hands and it can be a bit hard to control without the pinky extension mags.

Bersa Thunder in .380 is a little larger and easier to handle. It is very accurate for its size and it won't break the bank at $229.00-259.00.

I have fun shooting all of my guns, from my P3AT on up. If you didn't like the recoil of the little guns you tried I'm going to bet you won't like shooting a Glock 30, any small .45 is going to pack a pretty decent kick.

Of all the guns I have the best balance of carry-ability and shoot-ability is my Kahr CW9. It's easy to conceal, cheap to practice with, well made, and priced right. I have a Hand-all Jr. on mine because the blocks on the grip are kind of sharp, makes it more comfortable without affecting ease of concealment.

G36, M&P 45c, Springfield Micro compact 1911, and G19 are all compact models that I like shooting. All of these are great pistols, the G26, G27, & G30 are not bad, but pinky searches for a place to hold on to the grip. I don't own these, but have shoot them and they are not as comfy as the ones listed above. The LCP is not real fun to shoot, but would be good at close range and for a BUG.

My Sig 232 does very well at the range. It's kinda big for a 380, but it's still much smaller than other compact weapons.

You did

say compact,

try the kahr line, they make some super compact. The glocks are great, just IMO not compact that I think you are referring to.

My Walther PPS in 9mm really surprised me when I shot it for the first time. Very mild and a great carry gun!

This is my favorite toy. Around $1,000 new. Go nuts!!

I am REALLY lusting after one of those EMP's lately.

You are not helping matters :)

But I agree with the Bersa Thunder recommendations. Low cost, feels nice to shoot, not painful at all like the Kel Tec.

texas rifleman

and that bersa is well finished to, not like the kel tec. and u just don't hear any complaints on the Bersa..

I don't own one but have handled them and they sure seem nice and built well and they do go bang to.

I have a Bersa Thunder .380, and it's a great little shooter. But I like my RIA Compact 1911 even more.

I know exactly how you feel. You want a CCW gun that's small, but you also want something you can have fun shooting and get a ton of practice with.

If you like .380, I have to agree that the Bersa Thunder 380 is an extremely comfortable/fun gun to shoot, but it's kinda fat.

I'd say the Glock 26 with a +0 Pearce extension is still really comfortable/fun. I'd rather carry something skinnier like a Walther PPS, but I really think skinny grips are much less comfortable, and the Walther in particular doesn't have a good trigger.

Personally, I'm a lunatic and I just don't like the 1911 grip angle, so most of what I end up shooting are Glocks / Ruger 22s / revolvers. I like the M&P interchangable backstraps, but that's certainly not an option if you're looking towards the Kel-Tec level of concealability.

Perhaps a Springfield XD. The compacts use a grip extension to provide a full grip, but also use a smaller magazine for better concealability. HTH.

I took a look at the Bersa 380. They have a CC version that has lower sights and bobbed hammer for better to conceal. It's on my short list for a conceal carry handgun. Also on the list are the Kel Tec PF9 / P11 9mm's...

I enjoy shooting my G26 ... it's really a trip with a 33 round mag stuck in it.

I also have the Advantage Arms 22 LR conversion slide ... 10 seconds of work and now it's fun AND cheap!

+1 on the S&W M&P9c. Low felt recoil, great ergonomics, the spent brass goess somewhere other than on you, and mine has never failed to do anything with any round I have tried.

Love that little guy!
