lbmii following your tests it seems the dented, smiley'd bullets are gainning a slight fps over undented ones. How can this be? Maybe sligthly reducing the grains by scrapping off metal?

Bullet setback into case = higher combustion pressure.

I agree, I think the feed ramp slamming into the front of the bullet is causing a setback of the bullet into the case. This in turn is causing higher pressure and thus the higher velocity. My tests, though very small in the number of samples performed, suggest that indeed "Smileys" are more than simply cosmetic.

set back/ibmii

i would bet that the set back is indeed the culprit. did you happen to notice if the brass was bulged? if a round suffered this impact a few times and was not fired, then subsequently fired at a later time a nasty surprise might be in store. i'm doing the mod tommorrow regardless of what i shoot in mine.

The smiley thing is a concern to me also. My magizines even have smileys on the followers. I have thought about filing the feed ramp so that it does not hit the next round and dent it, but am concerned that there could then be feeding problems. The P3AT that I have shot about 400 rounds has only had one failure to feed.

mr.g

there is an owner mod and instructions. www.ktrange.com has in it's members forum pictures and instructions on the modification. i am going to do the mod tommorrow when i can get the proper size round file i need. it does entail filing a semi circle and removing the "ears on the bottom out side edges of the feed ramp. apparently this does not cause feed problems.
