Is there any .38/357 that can match a Ruger SP101?

Just a note on the cast vs. forged aspect. The need for forging really comes into play with a long piece of metal under stress (for example : a sword). A pistol frame (or a rifle receiver) really isn't under so much stress nor is it the long piece of metal such that forging is required, hence you see pistol frames even made out of aluminum and plastic. A good cast steel should more than suffice and it appears that Ruger has over-designed even that with their revolvers.
