Just went to my local gun shop yesterday. What do I see as I walk in the door? Well I will tell you, a brand new made in 1976 and stamped "200 Year"
Liberty model Ruger Old Army stainless. Price with tax out the door 450.00.
Is this a good buy?

Yes, that's a very good deal for a brand new one.
IIRC one difference with those older models is that the front sight isn't pinned like the later models.

The gold bubble will bust before long, but the ROA is a solid investment. And a man with an ROA can get gold, if he really wants to... just sayin'....

Buy that baby!!

Well I went today, and it's still there. No box, or wrench, just the gun. I
really don't want it but if any of you do I will buy it for you for a small fee.
Say 20.00 handling fee?

Hot dang, that would sure knock the Pietta 1858 .36 from Cabela's out of the race for what I should get next. I've always wanted an ROA.
If you want to discuss it you can PM me, sir.

Funny thing, the gold bubble being mentioned. The owners of Oxygen Financial were on the radio in Atlanta a while back.
The morning show DJs asked them what they thought about investing in precious metals. They replied something about gold/silver being good, and that they also have money invested in lead.
Even the CPAs know that sometimes lead trumps gold. If you have lead and are willing to dispense it, in a dire emergency, you can have all the gold or whatever you need.

Hum... Of course Jaymo is first, but in case he would change his mind... I would be interested also.

BTW... There is no gold bubble... It is our currencies that are loosing their value while our debts are increasing...

I got my stainless ROA off the web for $416 plus $20 shipping. Not a Liberty model, but pre-billboard with a pristine bore and chambers. Surface scratches but good, tight lockup. No box either, but I'm very happy. Don

I have seven ROA'S....four 7&1/2 two 5&1/2 one 3&1/2.
Some one buy it please, not nice to put temptation in a old man.:banghead:

kwhi, it was good talking to you on the phone today. I PM'ed my email and mailing addresses to you. I think I hit send. I'm not positive. Today was a long, hot day at work.
Let me know if you don't receive the PM.
I'm thinking that an ROA would fulfill my desire for a .44 BP revolver more powerful than my Pietta New Army.
Plus, everyone raves about how accurate they are. You're not the only one who's told me, "You won't want to shoot anything else".
High praise, indeed.
I assume it's a 7.5 inch model. I seem to recall the 5.5" tube being a very late addition.
I eagerly await your call tomorrow. If you can't reach me, leave a voicemail. I check my messages religiously, since my customers call me directly.

Well I went up to the gun store and bought the Ruger. Came with manual.
This is the bi-centeneal 200th year Liberty model. Un-fired. It will be on it's
way to Jaymo tommorrow. He got a fine Ruger. I thought I would let everybody see it before he does. Ha! Just set and drool Jayco.

What? No squareback trigger guard or pimp-daddy pearl grips?
Not even a bird's head grip frame and ivorex grips?
I bet that hunka doodoo doesn't even have the standard, modern Ruger 500 word essay on the barrel.
Fergit it.
Why would I want a beautiful, old shootin' iron like that?
Because I don't have one yet.
J/K, of course. I'll be glad to give that beautiful orphan a home. She'll look great next to my Italian ladies.
She'll also look good with my other Rugers.
Can't wait for her to arrive.
Nice find, Phil. I appreciate it. I can't wait for it to arrive.

Nice find, kwhi43. Thanks.

Look at how thick that top strap is. I bet I could shoot her loaded to the gills with Winchester Superlite. Well, for one shot, anyway. After that she would be scrap metal.
I can't decide whether I'll shoot her or not. On the one hand, she's kinda too nice to shoot. On the other hand, Bill Ruger intended for them to be shot. She's just begging to have those chambers loaded with Goex and lead.

Ohhh man that is sweet!

Kudos to kwhi for being a groovy guy and hooking a brother up!
Jaymo, if you shoot it, post vids :)

Anyone here cast their own balls/conicals for it?
So, do kwhi's pics qualify me for ROA club membership?

Well, my pics will be poor quality, camera phone pics but I'll take/post anyway.

I was trying to get a taller front sight for my blued '87, which has a solid front sight. Ruger's CS folks told me that among concurrently produced ROAs, stainless models had pinned front sights, and blued models were one-piece. Exhaustive searching of ther Interwebz seemed to bear that out.
