Is this ammo worth it now ?

I'm with you OhioChief. If not for my rigid habit of cleaning after each trip to the range I may not be posting tonight. I found numerous holes in the Bolt of my Mini14 and a broke Buffer Bushing at the last cleaning. Must of had the dreaded double charge and did not notice it while shooting. Just a guess, because all was well upon cleaning the gun previously. Also, I find the cleaning of my guns to be very enjoyable, even fun.

As for the Yugo Ammo. Sign me up, I'll take 5 cases. I find the M67 ammo to be the best as far as accuracy and reliability for combloc ammo.

The term "mildly corrosive" makes about as much sense as "mildly pregnant." That said, it's not really that big a deal if you maintain your rifle, which is not difficult.

Back in the 80s and 90s the vast majority of cheap 7.62x39 was corrosive and it was all I shot in my SKS. The only thing I ever used for cleaning was Hoppe's No.9. I always cleaned my rifle the same day I shot it and never got any rust.

I've never shot any ammo that wasn't mil-surplus corrosive stuff through my -74. Never had a spot of rust. Even at the end of a 2-day class in freezing/snowy weather.

I just put on a tea pot of water to boil when I get home from the range and strip the gun down. Rinse, scrub, rinse, then clean and oil as normal. I can't see that this takes more than a 1/2 hour and that's just the price of shooting. I can live with that.

I wouldn't want to have to clean my pistols after every range session, for sure! But a rifle that I probably don't shoot more than once every couple of months? Yeah, that's fine.

Did alot of reading and then confirmed that M67 is indeed significantly more accurate over Wolf and Sapsan. The 8M3 bullet is however a more effective SD round. The M67 reduced group size about 1.5 to 2 inches depending on the day, that is, from a 6 inch group to a 4 inch group at 100 yds in an AKM. At 200 yards this may translate into 8" groups instead of 12 inch groups. This could make the rifle useful at 200. I'd also install a Mojo peep, you will be pleased that the sight picture is close to that of an AR. Peeps are the fastest and most accurate iron sights.

Saying it's "mildly corrosive" is like saying your girlfriend is "a little bit pregnant", either it is or it isn't.

I also use a tea kettle of boiling water down the barrel to wash away the salts. Boiling water evaporates quickly as it heats up the barrel and leaves little or no moisture. I have to use an oven mitt to handle it though. Water, brush, water, dry patch, dry patch, oilly patch, and done.

corrosive ammo isnt that big of a deal, it's not going to create giant pitting. Just very fine rust that a quick scrub will take care of, but thats if you leave it for like a week in humid weather.

Just shoot, go home, boil some water up, grab a turkey baster and squirt some hot water down the barrel and gas piston.

done deal, dry it up really well, lube and reassemble.

or...find a chrome lined barrel and worry less

I wonder if the people in this thread making the "either it is, or it isn't" realize that some salts are indeed more corrosive than others.

I don't buy corrosive ammo simply because I don't want to take the chance of missing that one little spot and finding rust later when it's already gotten and good start. I prefer to spend a little more on the ammo and feel safe.

Gotta read carefully....that ammo is sold "as is" and from what I have heard is "battlefield pickup ammo" that may have vqarious headstamps and DOES NOT com in a sealed 1260 round case. J&G has the ammo in a sealed case for the same price, but you've got to pay shipping. It was $35 to South Dakota. Its up to you what to buy, but the sealed case and knowing I had one lot of new, untarnished ammo was worth the frieght cost to me.

Dave, do you have a link to this information? PSA site only says "sold as is". Never thought anyone could make money off battle field pickups in this time of gun hording.

Yes it came from AR15.com Poeple buying have reported no sealed case and tarnished ammo of various headstamps. "As is" isn't very descriptive when they don't actually tell you what that means, however. On that point I certainly agree.
