So, after selling a pistol I've been looking at getting an SKS. Both Classic and Palmetto state armory sell the chinese type56 for $349. I'm hearing that theirs are real hit or miss so I'm also looking elsewhere.

I came across this on armslist https://www.armslist.com/posts/11986452/florida-rifles-for-sale--sks-1952-russian

$300 for a Russian seems way too good to be real so I asked for more pictures Nd the seller sent me these. I'm thinking tbere has to be a catch somewhere. What are you thinking? abc7f706-1dbf-4770-ac92-c7875ffee74a_r1.jpeg 17fc3873-d40a-4eeb-9ce1-d485b1eee461.jpeg d402d65a-e17a-4f54-942f-e9890f98b7ea_r1.jpeg b4a21822-d85c-4782-a176-075bdb1e7e2c.jpeg bf0de6dd-5b7a-48ac-a0d4-79b2669b0f66_r1.jpeg 20200502_133714.jpg 9c978258-d3b7-4550-9c54-51c7d847bae3_r1.jpeg

The guy keeps refusing to send pics of the bore. I’m thinking that this thing as shot out and that’s why it’s cheap. I’ll probably just call Classic or PSA and order a Chinese type56 and hope I get an ok one. I don’t give a rats bottom about cosmetics I just want a good bore.

It may be that the seller is in need of cash now, so the first $300 gets it. Russian SKS rifles do sell for more, but it’s easier to sell a bit low for a guaranteed quick sale then to ask top dollar and deal with twenty people trying to price you down for a while.

I see lots of people selling at 50 to 60 percent of possible sale prices to pawn shops and LGS for that very reason. Plus, a consignment sale will net a bit more but you have to wait for the payment after the gun sells and the seller takes their fee, etc.

If you want to do a deal and face to face sales are legal where you are, set up a meet near the local police/sheriffs office (I would call first so they can ok that and make them aware).
If you need to go through a FFL, arrange a meet there.

Stay safe.

I highly doubt he is really selling it for $300. I think that is just to get people to look at his ad. I frequently see Armslist ads with the sales price at $1 so you have to click on the link. I have been looking to buy a Russian SKS and the current sold price on Gunbroker for a re-arsenalled rifle is $700.

That's too good a price. Ask him what the catch really is.

That's a couple of hours south of me. If I thought I could get it, in its described condition for that, I'd be typing this on my phone while camped out in his driveway.

Another comment. Hard to see from the pics but the round circle on the bottom of the magazine looks like the plug required on Canada-legal guns to limit them to 5 rounds.

It does seem pretty low, when fairly beat up Chinese SKS's are selling for Four Hundred plus, but who know's? Check it out it can't hurt. AK's and SKS's.jpg

If you want to know if the deal is legit I wouldn't wait long.
No one here can really help you , you just need to find out for yourself- and soon , lest the situation be moot.

As long as they are not asking for weird payment methods and will meet up in a public place during daylight hours.

In my experience, all SKS rifles are "hit and miss" anyway when it comes to accuracy. I would love to get another one. Especially at the price I got mine for in the 90's.

That was the case through ‘04-’06... I lived in Tucson, Az then...Right after the Billary Clinton AW ban expired. Could pick up an SKS anytime for $79-$99. Or a case of 5 Brand New, packed in Cosmoline for like $349....something like that. Those were the golden years of these. But I was too busy building AKs & ARs. Always thought I’d have time to buy an SKS later. Oh well. I’m not a collector anyway. Weird though....the SKS is one of the few I wish I had.

He can't or he won't send pics of the bore? If "can't", could be he doesn't have a camera that can take that photo successfully???

If the bore is bad, then head spacing could be bad, too. I sure hate getting a milsurp that I intend to shoot but is worn out. Been there before.

Now, if it's just going to be a wall hanger, that's different.

Wont. He’s being evasive. I’m looking for a shooter tbh

Probably a bad bore if he won't send pictures. Corrosive ammunition is fine if you clean properly. If no, it will pit up. Were the Russian bores chromed? The Chinese ones were. I think I would pass on this.

Set up the meet and greet, check the bore out, looks like a sweet buy if bore checks, If not, order one. If he is talking and corresponding, take the chance, looks like a normal armslist ad, not the bad ones I've seen. I have bought and sold alot on armslist...he might not know how to take a good bore shot...
