There is a concealed carry bill currently in the Illinois House (I know, I know...it will never pass) but it contains this requirement:

The application shall contain only the following information:

(i-iv omitted)

(v) a waiver of privacy and confidentiality rights and privileges enjoyed by the applicant under all federal and state laws governing access to juvenile court, criminal justice, psychological, or psychiatric records, or records
relating to the applicant's history of institutionalization, and an affirmative request that any person having custody of any such record provide it or
information concerning it to the sheriff;

Did those of you fortunate enough to live in free states have to sign such a waiver?

When it comes to concealed carry, there are only two free states....

Texas ain't one of them. Yeah, you sign way too much away to get that permit. Including access to your records of just about every relevant type.

Its not that I have anything to hide, it just seems overly intrusive. I have an IL FOID card, and they didn't ask for my medical records for that.

Think of it this way. In many states, having a CCW precludes you from having to undergo NCIS when you purchase a firearm. That waiver is effectively saying that the monitoring of your personal behavior (ie, mental instability) is taking the place of the NCIS check.

"Permission" to carry (...keep and bear...)

A short while ago, at gun-shows here in Indiana, there were being handed out, free-gratis, reprinted copies of the Second Amendment, on cool looking parchment paper. The tale was told that one of these was all a Gun-bearer would need to document his right to have a weapon on his person. I took one. I showed it to some of my LEO friends, who told me that, while it was authentically the Second Amendment alright, I had best carry my Indiana CCW with it. In 20 years of carrying I've never been asked for my permit. Any experience with showing the "original CCW" by anyone here?
