Is transitioning between a bullpup and a conventional rifle problematic?

I'm considering either a FNH SCAR 16S or IWI Tavor SAR to go along with an FNH SCAR 17S. The SCAR is a conventional rifle whereas the Tavor is a bullpup. The SCAR 17S will be used as a 600 meter rifle with a conventional scope. The SCAR 16S or Tavor will be a defensive close range rifle with an Aimpoint red dot sight. Inside of my home, the Tavor has obvious advantages considering the short overall length. The SCAR 16S is a lot more familiar to me as the first centerfire rifle I shot was the M16A2 during basic training when I was in the service and I've never trained with a bullpup rifle. The Israelis appear to field both bullpups and conventional rifles, but I can't find any information on how well their soldiers transition between the two. Will transitioning between a bullpup and a conventional rifle prove problematic?

Since you already have the SCAR 17 the SCAR 16 is the obvious answer. You already have the time (and muscle memory) invested in the SCAR and many of the small parts are also interchangeable between the 16 and 17.

If you can test out a Tavor, I'd try it. I've shot a friend's Tavor and it frankly didn't blow my skirt up.

I have several AR's and a bullpup Kel-Tec RFB. I see no problem switching between the two styles because it is a bullpup. Sure controls are a little different but it is a different gun. I would say no different than switching to an M1A or a bolt gun. As with any gun you need to practice with it to be familiar with it. So to answer your question, there is nothing more evil or secret about a bullpup than any other gun.

The transition is easy. If you can steady and balance your conventional rifle, you should find the muzzle rise on a bullpup easier to control. I have compared the AR to the Tavor.

You may find that "chesting" the buttpad as opposed to shouldering is more comfortable during firing.

Shooting a bullpup rifle calls for stricter hearing and eye protection.

No way

I tried to switch from a M-4 to a MSAR [ looks like a Styr AUG ] and the biggest problem was trying to do a 'speed' mag change.

Possibly its age or disabilitys, but there is no way on this good earth that I could come close to the speed of the M-4 with the MSAR.

The mag is IN your shoulder and the gun had to be dismounted to change the mag, since this shoot was a required 2 mag change mandated = I saw a bad time.

And yes I did train as best I could.

Otherwise I LOVE the design to death ----- until its time to reload.

I see that under a combat or very limited space combat situation, you are in deep poo.
