yeah.. i was looking at the actual trigger groups of the real bullpup rifles like the AUG and FS2000 which use a very similar trigger group which appears to be a piece that slides back and forth on the same axis of the barrel to catch the hammer... its interesting, but i can see where some of the issues of this trigger group come into play... and i was brainstorming for a better idea, a better type of trigger group and for the life of me i cant seem to think of it.. it seems triggers will always be substandard in bullpups and theres very little anyone can do about it
the best i could come up with for my own trigger group design was actually keeping the trigger group above the grip... the trigger/disconnector would hold onto a piston or weight in the front thats attached to a striker... so when the weight goes forward the striker in the rear is pulled forward to fire the round.. carrier moves back pulling the striker with it, locking rearward when the weight in the front engages the trigger group
this was the best idea i could come up with to a different idea for a trigger group... instead of linking the triggers youre essentially linking the hammer/striker instead
anyway, im not too optimistic ill become a fan of the bullpup due to the essentially impossibility of a good trigger (which is probably a big contributor to a generally low long-range accuracy of these rifles) as well as greater muzzle climb
so in the end, my assessment is this.. originally, i thought a bullpup would be great close range and allowing the use of a longer barrel would also be better at long range than an SBR rifle or equal overall length... but due to little ticks with the bullpup design the actual medium to long range accuracy might actually be about the same.. so in the end it might be better just to have an SBR rifle for close quarters than a bullpup... and with a folding stock an SBR could store in a smaller package too.. so im still going to try out a bullpup for a while, but i think my decision will remain with conventionally layed out rifles
fact remains though im still looking for a new rifle.. something that uses better magazines than the ar15 (im not sure if magpul pmags truly do have a constant curvature or if theyre just claiming that) and something i can take a barrel off of without special shop tools or headspacing (so i can have my other calibers without needing new rifles).. essentially, i want something thats both a great rifle (like an AK) but is also a great platform (like an ar15) so obviously neither of these rifles will work since they dont offer both
