I was looking to buy a new Walther PPK from one of my favorite gun stores. They looked into it extensively, and for some reason their suppliers can't get ahold of any. I have not seen any new PPK pistols for sale anywhere else. Anyone know what's going on with this? Walther still advertises them as part of their product line.

Walther no longer manufactures PPKs. They have been made by Smith & Wesson for years now.

If they have been discontinued that's news to me, but would be unsurprising due to Walther's recent split from having S&W market Walther pistols in the US.

S&W's license lapsed, and Walther decided to take control of the manufacturing. The new factory is not up and running yet. Walther says production will resume in 2016 in Fort Smith, Arkansas, IIRC.

There are a fair number of new or nearly new PPK's around made by S&W; if you are not one of the automatic S&W haters, you might do a search and see what turns up.

Yep, my understanding is the same as Schlegel's. S&W's contract lapsed earlier this year I believe and Walther Arms is in the process of tooling up in Arkansas.

Walther has already stated the new pistol Going to have the same ugly S&W tang and will very likely just be a repeat of the S&W mess

Go buy a older Interarms import or the Interarms made in USA . Their way better than the current production .

I had an S&W made PPK/s, I very much disliked it. It had to go back to S&W to have the slide replaced because of feeding issues right out of the box. It came back working, but with the rails badly galled. I sold it at a pretty significant loss.

If I were in the market for a Walther PPK I would look for an older imported model from the Interarms era. Never had a problem with those made in Germany or France (Manurhin). Some of the early U.S. built stainless models had problems but I think I would still prefer one of those to the ones made by S&W.

This. The tooling and machinery are being moved from Maine to Fort Smith, Arkansas. Probably 2nd quarter '16 before you see them.

The parts will be made and assembled in the US. Remember, you can't import a PPK. GCA 68.

I understand that but there's already a Uramex factory here. It's hard to believe that Fort Smith would have two gun manufacturers.

I have/had a PPK 380 Purchased new June of 2008. It had been back to S&W several times including a S&W recall. May of 2015 I noted that the barrel was loose in the frame. My phone call was directed to

They sent me a return sticker and within 1 month I received a NEW PISTIOL!
It has run flawlessly and accurate for over 200 fired rounds.

If you have a S&W PPK or PPK/s and needs work they are as stated going to Ark. now . S&W is out of picture. Of course Uramex doesn't have very good rep either.

Although they (at least the Walther arm) appear to want to improve that. Service was one of the reasons they gave for taking back control, and they have changed all warranties from one year to lifetime, making it retroactive to somewhere in the 90s, I think. And you do not need to be the original owner.

While I am reluctant to have too much hope, there is a chance that the Walther execs will maintain the culture of quality that the Ulm plant has. I am not counting on Umarex letting that happen, but fingers are crossed anyway.

All you guys typing "Uramex", it's "Umarex". It's ironic to have a bunch of people taking shots at a company for its production standards and quality control but not paying enough attention to detail to get the name spelled right. Guess it's lucky we on this forum aren't building the guns, huh? Might be quite a few coming back.

Never got the interest in the PPK other than it was Bond's gun. I have a WWII PP that my Dad brought back from Germany after the war. I really don't enjoy shooting it at all. I would imagine the PPK is worse. I do like the current line of Walther pistols however, especially the PPS.

My interarms stainless is flawless in function. I've carried it for a ton of years and it shows it. Wouldn't trade it for anything.
