Is Walther going to make PPK pistols?

Talked to them at the NRA convention and Walther is taking it back from S&W like others have said.

I have a PPK/S that is S&W made. It has ran perfectly from day one. The recall came and I sent it in for the fix and it still runs perfectly after the recall. You can tell if one has had the recall fix if there is a round stamp in the hammer well of the beaver tail.

I used to follow the PPK on some very specific forums and my opinion is that all versions of the PPK have many people complaining, including the Interams versions.

Often people would point out that if you want it to be the most reliable you should get it in 32 ACP. I have no idea if that is true. Mine is .380 ACP and it runs fine, even the strange flat nosed bullets.

I tried a Sig P238 (the one that is like a little 1911 style firearm , like a Colt Mustang) and it was beyond disappointing and unusable, so from my perspective the PPK/S is amazing.

you can always pick up a P64 Makarov for $200.......which is nearly the exact same thing as a Walther PPK....

My concern, with Umarex in the mix, is what exactly is the NEW PPK going to be like?

If the Walther purists decried the change that S&W put on the platform (redesigned lock work, MIM parts, extended tang), imagaine what they will think when the new guns are more like the recent production .22 PPK/s than a classic Interarms gun.

I was looking to buy a new Walther PPK from one of my favorite gun stores. They looked into it extensively, and for some reason their suppliers can't get ahold of any. I have not seen any new PPK pistols for sale anywhere else. Anyone know what's going on with this? Walther still advertises them as part of their product line.

Re sirgilligan's comments. People used to say the Interarms PPK was a jammomatic. I had one. It ran fine. People now say the Interarms was great and the S&Ws are junk. I have two. Stainless and blued. They run fine. (Admittedly, the round count is not high.)

I also have a Sig P238 HD (all steel version). Flawless so far.

Can't say anything more.

Gary A, one can only report what one has experienced. Well, I guess on the internet people repeat what the have read and actually have never experienced what they are referring too.

My P238 was a first generation HD. It was flawed and Sig redesigned it, which verifies that it was flawed. The slide was too light and too soft and the metal deformed. The springs were not correct and they changed springs several times before they got it right. The mags also were changed a few times as well. I have not heard of the same issues that I experienced so I assume things are fixed. Would I buy another? Not until I have tried some other firearms that I am interested in, then when I have come full circle I might try another.

But back on topic, the PPK's reputation is exactly how you describe it. The Interarms were junk until S&W came along and now the S&W is junk. Well, I don't think they are junk, either version.

I think there maybe two common problems caused by reassembling them incorrectly. The recoil spring does have a front and a back. Then there is the V shaped spring under the ejector, it is easily lost and the firearm will sort of work without it, so I think people loose that V spring and don't even know it.

S&W's license lapsed, and Walther decided to take control of the manufacturing. The new factory is not up and running yet. Walther says production will resume in 2016 in Fort Smith, Arkansas, IIRC.

This is what I understand about the PPK production.

I also understand the 32 ACP version is gone, or it is at least for the foreseeable future.

My S&W PPK has worked flawlessly since day one but it is not happy with the purpose designed self defense rounds. That is fine by me. FMJ bullets are just fine by me in this lower powdered cartridge.
