I am looking at getting a 9mm and when I do I want to practice ALOT.
The cheapest bulk ammo I can find is wolf but I have been hearing alot of negative things about it.

I would only be using this ammo for practicing and plinking. Never for SD.

What are your thoughts on wolf 9mm ammo?

Probably depends what you shoot it out of.

I've had nothing but trouble with .223 Wolf in my AR15 guns.

However, I've run hundreds of Wolf 9mm through various Glocks with no issue at all. Wolf does use primer sealer that gets thrown around in the breech during cycling/ejecting. Something to be aware of, but not be terribly concerned about provided that you clean your Glocks now and then.

Wolf is a brand name, not a manufacturer. Wolf resells ammo manufactured by many different manufacturers. I'm not sure if Wolf actually owns any manufacturing plants.

Wolf MT .22 ammo is incredible stuff. Very consistent and accurate. Competition guys use it to practice with when they're not competing. I love Wolf MT.

Wolf 7.62x39, I had a double-load with once. Very scary. I won't touch that stuff.

So...

It ain't all the same just 'cause it's got the same name on it.

I have fired tons of Wolf ammo and no real complaints. Thousands of 9mm Wolf through my Glocks. Thousands of 7.62 x 39 in AK and SKS. Hundreds of .223 through AR. My only complaint is that it seems to leave my weapons a dirtier than other ammo. Of course I have had a handful of FTF (hard primers?).

Wayne brings up a good point. But that's the same for a lot of manufacturers, probably more than one may think...

But Wolf is generally mediocre at best. I definitely wouldn't shoot their .223 in an AR but their 7.62x39 is alright. Sorry I don't have any experience with Wolf's pistol ammo.

If you're thinking about high-volume pistol shooting I would look into reloading.

I shot a lot of Wolf 223 the polymer coated stuff though my AR maybe 1000 rounds or so then all of a sudden I was having all kinds of trouble with it feeding and jams....so I stopped using it sold my remaining stock and I don't have any problems of any kind.

Also the accuracy was horrible...OK for plinking but that's it.

I've been using Wolf 9mm Mak for my Russian Mak and have had no problem. Granted the Makarov (in my experience) is not that picky on ammo. If you're not firing some sort of com-bloc pistol I would recommend looking for something one step up. Perhaps some re-manufactured ammunition or maybe Sellier & Bellot would be up your alley.

It seems to be just fine in everything but ARs, pistols it's okay, and Russian guns and/or copies love the stuff.

In a milspec AR built with premium parts (why build with anything else) Wolf will work fine. I have run thousands upon thousands of rounds of Wolf through my AR's and no problems to speak of. If my AR won't shoot Wolf then I don't want it.

Wolf MT/ET is made in Germany, most of the rest in Russia – draw your own conclusions.

The AK runs smooth on the bottom-of-the-barrel MC; the SKSs hate it. No problems with black box pistol ammo.

Y'all need to stop buying it so the price will go down. Terrible stuff, causes cancer in rats....

Don't buy it, I'm begging you....

Bah. My Berettas, SIGs and Taurus 9mm's eat Wolf up with no problems. Never used the stuff in .45 ACP. But, never had a problem with my ARs shooting the steel-cased stuff, either.

As far as Wolf pistol ammo, I've had far more problems with Winchester white box, both in terms of hard primers and the dirtiness factor.

Seems as though we revisit the Wolf issue pretty regularly. Let's try a search and see ...

careful, the new wolf 9mm has a steel plating with a copper wash over it... found out that it was magnetic this weekend at the range... the local indoor range has stopped allowing it

...because they can't gather it up and resell it, no other reason.

no the bullets in the new boxes are steel plated with a copper wash... they are actually magnetic, we cut a jacket open and saw it for ourselves... they were tearing up the backstop

Over at Rimfire Central, you'll find that Wold Match Target is one of the top rated rounds.

I don't know how Wolf compares to Blaser for price or performance, but I've heard good words on CCI's Blaser.

Wolf is terrible because legend has it that their brass eats children.

As for your question, it depends on what Wolf you're talking about. Are you talking about their brass cased ammo, their steel cased ammo, their military classic ammo? It's all made by different manufacturers so it depends.

Don't Know About Any price Advantage

Unless you can buy Wolf at a store vs online, I'm nor sure about the price advantage anyway. Academy sells Monarch for about $ 8 / 50 so, unless you find online for $5-6 / 50, once you toss in shipping I don't think you will realize any price advantage.

Wolf isn't my favorite ammo in any caliber. But I've fired thousands of 9mm, maybe a thousand .45s, lots of 7.62x39 and .223. In my AR, Wolf is actually more accurate than federal. Go figure.
If it's cheap, I'd buy it.
