What is the difference in action strength, if any, between a Ishapore 2A and a 2A1? I have a 2A. I don't know for sure if there is a difference other than cosmetic differences, sights and such.

I play it safe and load 2gr under max. It's more accurate and there is no need to load hot in a old battle rifle.

Thanks
ZM

IIRC the only difference is in the rear sight - the 2A's still had the rear sights graduated and marked up to 1200 or 2000 meters, on the 2A1's they only marked the rear sight for a max range of 800m. You can still set the sight high enough for a 1200m area target, they just didn't bother to mark the graduations past 800m.

AFAIK there are no other differences in design, construction or metallurgical composition.

Thank You.

None of my milsurp data ever mentioned a difference in action strength. I am not loading warm, more like lukewarm. I know the 2A1 has the stronger action compared to No1MkIII's. I wasn't sure about the 2A.

Mine really likes the light loads and 165gr boat-tails.

I've read that the Ishapores are built from the ground up with 7.62x51 in mind. This is so the Indian police had ammo commonality with their military who were using L1A1s like the rest of the British Commonweatlh.

So, from what I understand, the metal is stronger to withstand the more powerful round. These rifles are not just reworked from .303s per this information.

No, the 2A and 2A1 are not reworked .303 rifles. The material is better and they are adequate for the pressure level of 7.62x51 NATO spec.

But, the rifles were not intended for heavy or extended use. They were an expedient to arm police and para-military units who would certainly not fire them extensively. I would avoid use of higher pressure commercial .308 Winchester ammunition, and would keep handloads to moderate pressure levels (48k range).

Not trying to sound argumentative, but what information do you have that leads you to say this?
