I'd like to make some homemade targets to practice with my carry pistol.

I read in a magazine that your goal for proficiency is placing shots in the "A" zone of an ISPC target

Would someone please tell me what the dimensions are of the "A" zone?

Thanks. Yes, I AM too cheap to go out and buy the targets, I have tons of used computer paper and a brand new black felt marker:D

Kruzer, thank you.

Obiwan, I looked up on the Internet to see what the target looked like and the picture was the human shape. Yes, please dimension the A zone for me. Thank you.

I'm going to try both of them out, ain't this website just the greatest!

To those of us who don't do the metric system, it works out to about 6" wide and 14" long.

38snapcaps,

This probably doesn't apply since you're looking for IPSC targets specifically, but this is what I do.

IDPA targets have an 8 inch diameter circle for the "A" zone and a 6 inch square for the head shot. So, I used some regular 8 1/2"x11" paper and drew an 8" circle (using a compass and a sharpie marker) that I can make copies of on my home computer printer/copier. I took another piece of paper and drew a 6" square that I can make copies of as well.

This way, when I go to the range, I can staple these homemade targets to a piece of cardboard on my target stand and - viola - I've got a poor man's IDPA target. :)

Hey guys, I drew squares according to your info on some fiberboard panels I found in a dumpster and practiced dry firing last night. The centimeter dimensions weren't a problem as my ruler had both measurements. I propped the board up in the far bedroom and paced off ten yards which put me in the kitchen by the back door. Man, those squares looked big drawing them but thirty feet away they're not so big any more! Especially the 5X10cm "A zone" for the head shot, that one is really tiny.

I practiced for about a half hour to get a feel for how the sight picture looks and now I can hardly wait to take my panels out to the range. Wouldn't you just know it, there is a blizzard warning that just came out for today and tomorrow.

Mpthole, thanks for the circles idea. I can draw those on my computer paper pages. I'll make some of those tonight. I make three inch circles for precision shooting with a felt marker and the lid off a Jif peanut butter jar. Those have been a favorite for several years now. That's my standard for practicing trigger control and aiming with whatever handgun I'm playing with, all the shots must at least go inside the "Jif circle". I've even tried two inch circles, now that's a challenge!
