I was reading my latest American Rifleman and in the Q&A section, somebody wrote in (with a picture) about the statue of the Marines (and the Navy Corpsman) raising the flag on Iwo Jima.
Their question was about the M1 Carbine in the picture having a bayonet lug when most carbines didn't get the lug until after the war.
My first thought was that it HAD to be a THR member who would study the statue, notice the lug, KNOW it was wrong, and take the time to write about it.
So, who was it? Fess Up.
As the answer points out, this "in no way diminishes the impact and meaning of the magnificent flag-raising statue." If you haven't read it yet, go to the thread "Iwo Jima (Lest We Forget)" that is currently here in General. It's a good thread.
