Does this happen to everyone? Or am I just a pushover for a shiney bore and a nice stock?

Last week I went to the local gun shop to "look" at some 91/30 hex reciever mosin naggant rifles. I ended up getting a 91/30, an m38 and a 98k that was too good to pass up. I went back today to get a handgun. THey didn't have the one I wanted, and said it'd take a while to order, and nothing else inspired me. I decided due to rising ammo costs to get a .22. In fact I got a nice wood stock ruger 10/22, it was substantially less that a handgun go I grabed the k-31 I didn't get because I found that 98k last week. While filling out the paperwork I was talking with the owner and mentioned that I'd like to get a Japanese rifle like the ones my Grandfather brought back from the war, that my dad sold when grandpa died. He went to the back room to get the boxes and emerged with a arisaka 99, shooter's grade. Told me he's never been able to sell it and let me have it for $50.:what: So yet again I went to get one gun and left with three. Good thing I got that safe.

Come next week I'll have the pics. Damn the waiting period:cuss:

Once you own a gun why would a waiting period help:confused:

I've had time to refinish a stock, reblue my star, and look for accessories...

Why is it still so hard to wait, I mean I could go shoot my other guns right now.

Sorry it was the only one he had. He had a real nice one in October for about $250-but I mean real nice. I'm already looking for all the accessories to go with these rifles. Ammo pouches, bayonets, slings...

If I wernt going to Iraq so soon I'd agree. As it stands my refund will more than likely be going to ink.

Got the guns on tuesday.

Cleaned them up, locked them up. Range time thsisaturday:D

Too bad I can't find 7.7 ammo by Saturday. I'll just have to wait until I get to the gunshow. I don't want to start reloading for it yet...yet.

photos and buttercup

Here are the new members of the family, and my stuffed cow, Buttercup. She likes guns too:neener:
Photo 1: top-91/30 (1926), bottom-k-31 (1941)
Photo 2: Arisaka type 99 (????)
Photo 3: top-ruger 10/22, bottom-m-38 (1941)
photo 4: 98K (1937, Russian Capture)
If anyone wants better photos, just ask.
91/30 and m38 shot great today.
k-31 HEAVY SOB, but out-shot everything else I brought (thought it would)
Arisaka 99-like I said, shooter grade and no finish-wood or metal, it will need alot of TLC.
98k was great, all those mix-match parts must have been selected for function. Bolt is almost as smooth as an enfield, shot well, as expected
ruger 10/22-Those sights are from hell!!!! It was fun, had a few casing get jammed in the slide instead of eject, more with federal than ficcochi I was shooting at 12ga casing (empty) at 50 yards and was knocking them off the pile of debris, should be a good bunny-hun:D

-I was shooting the 91/30 at a 125 yard target. all of a sudden the shots were hitting all over-I mean like 3' left and right of the target. I went to load another clip and the action felt loose. The front action screw fell out:mad: I've added that to the list of parts to get at next week's gun show.

I noticed the Arisaka does have a dust cover. Most are missing the dust cover. Are the aviation wings still on the rear sights?
I would just clean it up and enjoy what it is....an old WWII battle rifle.
Ammo is a little pricey for the 7.7 Jap. Around here Hornady is going for about $20.00 for a box of 20. Norma is over $30.00.
Congrats, on your purchases.

Thanks all for the compliments,
No aviation wings on the arisaka. The stock is bonedry, I fear that leaving it as is would mean the wood deteriorate. Not going to reblue or anything...Not sure what I'll do with it.

reason I've wanted one is simple. My grandfather fougt in the California Nation Guard 143rd Field Artillery Regiment as an artillery gunner (75mm howitzer IIRC) during WWII. He brought back two Arisaka rifles. When I was 10 he passed away from cancer and Dad gave them away, Mom was/is anti and he never had an interest. They both were bringbacks, with the mum, and both just sat in his closet. He never took them out shooting. The guy that got them welded the bolts shut and made them wall hangers:barf: :fire: :cuss: :banghead:  :fire: :fire: :fire: :fire: :fire: :fire: :fire:

So it's been a rifle I've wanted to get, but haden't because of price. A way of remembering Grandpa. He never talked about the war, I have the last ammo can he used. On VJ-Day he (a sergent) was ordered to continue shelling the enemy as they surrendered, he refused the order and asked to be demoted, not wanting to have to give any order like that. He brought the ammo can home (.30 cal), gave it to dad, and dad gave it to me.

So this rifle is special to me, even if I never shoot it. (I bet I'll start reloading for it and a few others; k-31, m-95, and 8mm mauser for hunting)

Nice Mascot

Nicely done, Hippie.

The k-31 and m-38 are good lookin' pieces.

I can't make out the markings on that 10/22; is that one of the fabled Ishvesk carbines? :D

Seriously, though, good stuff.

Shoot them in good health.
