It looks like there's a .358Win in my future.

Right now I'm going to focus on TAC, cause I'm working with it in my .350RM and I've got a a lot on-hand. Have you tried it? I've also got the usual .308 sized case suspects : H4350, Varget, IMR4320, CFR223.

I have not used TAC but I’m sure it would work well.

Powders I have tried include N135, N140, Benchmark, IMR 4064 and Varget.

Of those, N135 worked best for me.

Quick update:

Rifle is done, mounted a Swarovski 1.25-4X on it temporarily as the Leupold I want is still out of stock:(

The Swarovski is heavier and the reticle, while great for close in/running game, and charging Rhinos, isn't the best for precision work.. the dot in the middle at even 50yds takes up quite a bit of the normal sized TGTs I have. So now I'm on the hunt for a larger suitable TGT for load development. I ran into this before when this scope was on my .350RM.

First 4 shots at 50yds, 180 Speer Hot Core, 51grns of TAC and FED 210 show's promise (2520FPS). Initial shot after boresighting, adjustment then 3:

Over all, pretty pleased. All up with the Swarovski and Warne QD mounts it weighs in at slightly over 7lbs, so doable for a "brush gun". The balance with the 19" tube is right at the magazine.

This is an awesome rig in an awesome chambering.

If I could add anything I would go heavier than 180g to get the full potential out of this compact hunting round.

IMO, your scope is perfect. With 2,500 fps a max PBR is ~200 yards. This table is with my 200gn Hornady RN load.

I’ve worked up loads using 180gn to 250gn projectiles and find a heavy bullet with fast powder works the best.

With all of that said, I was a prolifically slayer of deer with the 358 win, iron sights and Winchester silver tips for the the better part of my adult years. Nothing fancy. It’s as lethal as a fried peanut butter and banana sandwich was to Elvis.

I've got to agree..

For a minute there I was trying to make it too versatile, instead of remaining focused on it's primary use.. 200 and well under.

200 grainers are next on the list, but it's going to be after this season before I get to testing. Just too many irons in the fire now and the season is upon us.

I have been thinking of getting a 358 winchester AR 10. Is a couple of companies making the uppers in that caliber. and truth is from what I see is cheaper than going with either of the Remintons 7600 or 7400,
or a good lever, and shooting left handed does make a lot of sense

Try before you buy!

Generally AR10s = weight.

The Ruger SFAR would be the way to go, but I don't know IF anybody is doing a .358Win barrel for it. The Wilson Combat "Ultralight" Ranger weighs in at 7lbs 6 ounces stripped, so with scope and mount it will be over 8lbs (and costs $3400:what:).

IMHO a better alternative to the AR10 would be the BLR with lightweight receiver.. They're about $1000 IF you can find one. That will bring the package up to about 7.5lbs scoped.

Minus the optic I've got a little over $1500 tied up in the 7600 as it sits.

If you want light and compact in an auto loader, either converting an SFAR or POF would be the way to go or just get a 358 yeti which fits in a standard AR15 receiver. My pet load in my 358 yeti is a speer 180 at 2500 fps from a 16” barrel. I have done 2600 but start getting some ejector marks. Others have done 2500 with the 200 gr ftx. It’s a little more work to make the brass since you have to cut the brass first, but otherwise it’s a single pass through the sizing die then trim and load. I make mine from 270 brass.

IF I was wedded to the AR, I'd take the 358 Yeti route, plenty of performance at a decent weight. I'd cringe every time I pulled the trigger though as I can't stand losing brass I've put time into..

It would also screw up my future plaid wardrobe plans.

I have yet to find a 358 caliber rifle that doesn’t work very nicely on game.

They seem to punch above their weight (and SD), don't require premium anything, and at moderate impact velocities don't screw up a lot of meat.

Hopefully with the 360BH catching on we'll see greater .358 hunting bullet availability.

Yeah bullet availability has been an issue for quite awhile now.

AR'S are not my favorite platform. I am old school and think I will look for an older 358 winchester lever gun. They look better and in some states do not have the evil eye look to them the AR'S have.
I still shave with a brush and cup and shaving soap and injector razor like I said am old school

Browning shows the 358win still available in its catalog. The problem is finding one😠🤣

Take a look at the Browning BLR in the takedown configuration. They are real shooters.
