XD Thoughts

I've held my XD every which way possible and as long as I have some webbing on my hand, the grip safety engages. If my thumb is blown off and I don't have the webbing of my hand, I can't hold the gun anyway. It's BS.

Marshall,
I'm sorry that you are so challenged that you can't figure it out for yourself.  I knew it would turn into this after your first post. My offer to demonstrate it to you still stands.

I didn't mean to start a war between you two guys. I am sorry. The grip safety doesn't bother me, except that, IMO, it takes away from the looks of the gun. Also, IMO, if a person can't grip the gun well enough to depress the safety, he probably couldn't shoot anyway.

I really have always wanted a Glock but never got one for one reason or another. I do like the feel of the XD, but not being able to hit with it as well as I could the G19 bothers me.

Would the service model XD be more accurate than the compact?

I dont own a compact model but my XD-9 service is more accurate then I am, also I would assume the service would be more accurate then the compact.

Desertscout,

Since you can't explain it here, you wouldn't be able to explain it anywhere. If you can't back up your assertions, you shouldn't make them. Next I will probably hear it's all semantics, kind of like the firing pin sticking out the back of the slide and also being a LCI. There's no need to explain, your credibility has tanked on the whole XD subject.

Good day. :)

It doesnt sound like this guy even has experience with the XD, yet he seems to be so sure of its shortcomings.. funny how he's so confident that the grip safety is such a hindrance, but refuses to explain how.

Maybe he's just trolling.

The grip safety has been a hinderance on people not used to shooting pistols properly. Those that are used to it and use a proper grip haven't had any problems with it.

If it was such a hinderance for wounded people to use, the 1911 wouldn't have one today. Plus just about anyone half serious about self defence also trains to shoot with their weak hand, which pretty much rules out the wounded having a problem with it.

But we CAN "what if" it into non-existance if you'd like...

Myself, I like it. It's pretty light and I've never noticed it. The wife, who's never shot a gun before didn't have a problem with it, but I did show her a proper grip beforehand. I feel it gives me a little more safety while holstering and unholstering. Plus the XD is my "beat up" gun. It's the one that gets tossed in my pack, glovebox, tacklebox, throw into the boat, car, truck and I don't have to worry about an AD when it's in goofy places. Little more mental confidence over the Glock to me.
