The NRA is NOT the best gun group.

The NRA may not be the 'best' in a philosophical sense (I have disagreed with some of their 'compromises' in the past), but they are the ones giving the anti's fits; just look at the name calling from Moms Demand Stuff, Bloomie and the rest-they don't mention GOA or anyone else-their opponent is the NRA.

Love them or hate them, they're what's keeping our gun rights safe on the national stage, and not belonging because you can find a few things to disagree with them about is just a clever way of saving $30, IMHO. :)

Larry
by fits, you mean free advertisements, right?.. it seems to be private lawyers challenging unconstitutional legislation in the courts and getting various pieces of gun control legislation defeated.. its also where the 86 machine gun bans are currently having a losing battle.. no NRA presence there, why?.. well because fudds dont care about MGs and their corporate backers dont sell them so the NRA has no interest in challenging that

face it, its private citizens defending and protecting the second amendment, the NRA just tries to horn in and take credit for donations, thats all it is, and theres nothing the NRA would hate more than a day where people realized we dont need them

so for anyone who wants to put your money where it'll do the most good, find these entities that are actually challenging gun control in the courts and support them

I support the NRA because they have a history of uniting gun owners and influencing legislation. I do think that these days they are throwing the mentally ill under the bus in order to garner support for their efforts.

I really think that by doing this the NRA is going to find that they have bitten off more than they can chew.

That being said they are already in this and they had better start hiring advisors who are educated in matters of mental health and get ready to start advocating for those who are mentally ill to prevent them from being punished and harmed by way out of proportion "gun law" punishments as well as advocate for people who are wrongfully denied access to firearms due to these laws.

So how do you plan on "HELPING" these disabled veterans and mentally ill people "IN NEED OF HELP" Rusty ?

By sending them to Fort Levenworth for 10 years for trying to hunt with grandpas shotgun ? How about for using a real knife to slice bread, or an ax to chop firewood, or being around gasoline to fill the cars gas tank or gasp even driving a car or any vehicle where does it end ????? Well ????

How about also going after mom, dad, and the rest of the family for "Failing To Secure Their EVIL GUN" (or other evil "potential weapons") and send them to prison too.

Gun laws tend to be outrageously harsh and biased toward gun owners and punishment more times than not does not fit the crime.

Do not push for these kinds of laws without addressing this or making sure that polititians are not able to stir up a witch hunt to obtain votes from the more ignorant masses.

These are very real facts Rusty that you seem to be unconcerned about. While your idea seems noble Rusty the fact is that the framework for supporting this in the current state of government is made of saltine crackers and will easily crumble and Rusty will not come to the rescue of those poor souls caught up in it.

PS If the NRA goes overboard with this "mentally defective" (that is really a ****ing derogatory term too) firearm ban I will have to reconsider my membership.

It should have been obvious from the confrontational first post if this thread what the intentions were and everyone fell for it anyway.
FTW.

The premise and substance of the OP was addressed in Post #9. Everything past that from AR15activist is just an emotional kicker designed to support a bias.

I once had a senior NCO counsel me, after watching me engage in a fruitless debate with another service member, to never wrestle a pig in the mud - you just get muddy and the pig likes the attention. It's good advice. :)

AR15activist, i ain't drinking the Kool Aide. You sound like a shill for NAGR.

i could care less that the pro-gunner is liberal Wiccan or a fire breathing Protestant preacher. The pro-gunner gets my vote every time.

I agree for the most part.

Well put. Time to shut this one down.

Oh, cool! Is it "bash the NRA" day again? It sneaks up on me every month -- where does the time go? Let me grab my hat and whuppin' stick.

Or maybe not.

Look, do a search next time and see if whatever's got you cheesed off has already been bashed out and hashed over dozens of times already. Chances are you'll find "a few" NRA-bash-fest threads in our archives. I hate to send folks nastygrams for name-calling and insults and we're getting too close, for the sake of a recycled thread topic? Naah.
